 Nach dem letzten Bericht von UNODC (United Nations on Drug and Crime), "Coca Survey 2003", der im Juni 2004 in Wien veröffentlicht wurde, ist im Hinblick auf die verbotenen Kulturen in Kolumbien im Laufe des Jahres 2003 eine Reduzierung der Kokaflächen um 15 731 ha erreicht worden.
Im Fall Kolumbiens werden diese Zahlen zunächst mit einem relativ erfolgreichen Ergebnis der Besprühungen assoziiert. Betrachten wir aber einige Tatsachen, die dieser Feststellung widersprechen. In erster Linie muß man erwähnen, daß im Ergebnis manueller Vernichtung eine Reduzierung um 4 000 ha erreicht wurde. Das heißt, daß nur eine Reduzierung um 11 731 ha durch Besprühungen aus der Luft zustande kam.
