Two young Belarusian artists are touring the European continent to share their art and ideas. This week they present there work in the autonomous art gallery “de Artellerie” at Jutfaseweg. The exposition will be open for public from Saturday 8 till Tuesday 11 September.
On Saturday the 8th there will be an open discussion night in which the artists would like to engage with the Dutch public about art and politics in Belarus. By sharing their life story of artistic rebellion and social activism in the last dictatorship of the European continent, the hope to bring a different perspective on this hardly known and often misunderstood culture. The questions are as universal as contemporary to our societies. What is to be young and finding ways to express oneself? What interventions can be made within the conservative framework of society? What are the spaces that provoke and encourage subversion? How can we learn and interact with each other beyond the world of borders, states and visa’s?
