Last night, while the politicians are gathering in the Hague for the NATO-summit, we paintbombed the building that houses the headquarters of the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF). The NIF invests in the development of so-called “dual-use” technologies, technologies that can be used both for civilian and military purposes, such as AI and data and computing. In this way, the NIF accelerates the development of ever more deadly and destructive weapons and contributes to massive rise in budgets for military research.

The politicians would like to make us believe that the NATO is there to protect our peace and security. But we know better: the NATO is only there to protect the rich and powerful. The NATO brought nothing but death and destruction to Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya. And when people try to flee those wars, the NATO offers support to the military missions on the Mediterranean Sea where refugees are brought to Libyan prison camps to be tortured, extorted and enslaved. The ongoing support of NATO-countries for Israel’s genocidal campaign and the recent bombings of fascist president Trump of Iran only go to prove this point. The NATO is not a defensive alliance, but an imperialist power.

Meanwhile, the war propaganda machine rages on. At the NATO-summit, our so called leaders will agree to increase military spending to 5% of their countries' GDP by 2035. Budget growth that will only profit the arms industry and will bring us a new wave of social austerity politics. The politicians want to make us ready to fight their wars and take attention away from the climate crisis, refugees dying at the borders of Fortress Europe and the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The war starts here in Amsterdam. If we want to fight the war machine, it is time to attack the NATO and all the actors involved in it.
