Maastricht's university newspaper Observant was target of a DDoS attack from Tuesday 11th until Friday 14th (two weeks ago). Reason is their repeated racist and transphobic postings. This may not be the last time they were attacked either, depending on if they have learned their lesson. We are posting this here because Observant is trying to keep secred WHY they were hacked. Believe us when we tell you that they know very well why.
For multiple times now recently, Observant writes articles stereotyping minority groups. Race and gender identity are predominantly subject of their hateful posts. They topped that with the extremely transphobic post at https://www.observantonline.nl/english/Home/Articles/id/58122/why-i-am-a... in which they literally claim that trans people do not deserve proper health care and are not allowed to visit the toilet that fits their gender.
This was for us reason to ATTACK their website, which we have done. Their website was DOWN FOR OVER TWO DAYS, until we thought they had enough of it. We have informed them why they were hacked. However, while at https://www.observantonline.nl/english/Home/Articles/id/58173/and-then-o... they report about their website being taken down, they refuse to tell their audience why. So we have emailed press and student groups in Maastricht why the Observant website was taken down. And since we find it important that everybody knows that Observant is part of the far-right apparently, and posting racist and transphobic articles, we are posting it here as well.
OBSERVANT IS NOT PRESS, IT IS ONLY DEPRESSING!
