Protesteer tegen pushback naar Libië: bel/mail scheepvaartbedrijf Vroon

Afgelopen maandag 14 juni was het bevoorradingsschip Vos Triton van het Nederlandse scheepvaarbedrijf Vroon betrokken bij een illegale pushback van vluchtelingen naar Libië. Dit blijkt uit berichtgeving van de op de Middelandse Zee actieve reddingsorganisaties Sea-Watch en Alarmphone.
Bel/mail Vroon om hiertegen te protesteren en duidelijk te maken dat het bedrijf nooit meer aan pushbacks mee moet werken!

Volgens de waarnemingen van Sea-Watch werd de Vos Triton midden op de Middellandse Zee geconfronteerd met een op drift geraakte houten boot met een kapotte motor, waarop zich 180 vluchtelingen bevonden. Een deel van hen sprong in het water om naar het bevoorradingsschip te zwemmen in de hoop op redding. Pas na enige tijd voldeed de bemensing van het schip aan internationale voorschriften en nam de vluchtelingen aan boord.
Enige tijd later bleek dat de vluchtelingen niet werden overgebracht naar een veilige haven, maar dat het schip contact had opgenomen met de Libische kustwacht en alle vluchtelingen aan hen heeft overdragen. Ze zijn vervolgens teruggebracht naar Libië, waar hen opsluiting in de beruchte detentiecentra wacht. Zoals Alarmphone schreef: “Dit betekent dat ze werden teruggebracht naar omstandigheden van opsluiting, marteling en verkrachting.”
Op woensdag 16 juni vond al een picketline plaats voor de vestiging van Vroon in het Italiaanse Genua (zie: https://fb.watch/6a-YZVAiCE/).

Protest against pushback to Libya: call/mail Dutch shipping agency Vroon
Last Monday, June 14, the supply ship Vos Triton of the Dutch shipping company Vroon was involved in an illegal pushback of refugees to Libya, according to reports from the rescue organizations Sea-Watch and Alarmphone, which are active in the Mediterranean.

According to Sea-Watch’s observations, the Fox Triton was confronted in the middle of the Mediterranean by a drifting wooden boat with a broken engine, carrying 180 refugees. Some of them jumped into the water to swim to the supply ship in the hope of rescue. Only after some time did the crew of the ship comply with international regulations and take the refugees on board.
Some time later, it turned out that the refugees were not transferred to a safe port, but that the ship had contacted the Libyan coastguard and handed over all the refugees to them. They were then returned to Libya, where they face detention in the infamous detention centers. As Alarmphone wrote, “this means they were returned to conditions of incarceration, torture and rape.”
