As you might have heard, three people have been arrested in Briançon (France) at the start of this week for having show solidarity with refugees crossing the border between Italy and France.
On Sunday the 22nd April, they participated in a spontanous solidarity demonstration by walking along the route that migrants take to cross the border. They did this to stand up against the fascist anti-migrant groups rising up in the region. The demonstration was made up of migrants and activists. Three activists, Bastien, Théo and Eleonora were arrested for “helping foreigners in an irregular situation enter the french territory, doing so in as an organised group."
The french government has decided to criminalise this act fo solidarity. The three young people are risking up to 10 years of jail and a fine of 750.000 EUR. They have currently been transferred to a jail in Marseille, waiting for their trail to start at the end of May.
As friends and family, we are worried for them. As fellow activists. we are shocked by the rise of criminalisation of our acts and the harsh repression - from the ZAD in France to the Stansted airport trail in the UK.
A strong solidarity network has erupted in Switzerland around the slogan “Liberté pour les 3 de Briançon” (“Freedon for the Briancon 3"), but we need more international eyes and support. Please, support us by :
