With a tiny little cake we can create panic amongst the masters of the universe (Noel Godin, pie-thrower).
Throwing a shoe at Bush during his visit in Iraq, turning the streets of London into a big garden, women damaging an airplane which is about to leave for war in East Timor and pie throwers.. What they have in common is that they are all acts of civil disobedience. Acts that for a moment, either with or without a political motive, disturb daily life and the normal course of events.
On Tuesday the 28th of April, Generation Alpha screens the documentary ‘The Antics Roadshow’ (2011, 48m). A movie about famous pranks and acts of activism which have become iconic.
After the screening we will discuss the strategy of what one might call tactical frivolity with Rhythms of Resistance (RoR), the illustrious transnational anti-hierarchical, anticapitalist, antisexist and antiracist network of activist samba drum bands fighting for social and ecological justice. RoR uses tactical frivolity such as making fun, music and humor in a strategic way: to get more people go to the streets, to disrupt meetings, but also to confuse the police. They believe that such fun guerrilla creates the possibility of surprise, opens new spaces for disruptions and is any case enjoyable for the participants!
Do you want to hear more about tactical frivolity, do you want to explore how Rhythms of Resistance can support your struggle or do you just want to try some revolutionary rhythms yourself?
