**Event in preparation of the Deportation Resistance Monument**
Platformbar Poortgebouw invites you for a series of Wednesday-evenings about the struggle of refugees in the Netherlands.
We want to inform you about refugees in a broad perspective, told by refugees themselves, supporters, activists and artists with and without papers, thinkers and writers.
The final goal of the evenings is to establish a group of people willing to create a Deportation Resistance Monument in the public space of Rotterdam, as well to connect people in Rotterdam for the refugee struggle.
Each evening has a specific theme, provides space for questions and exchange of ideas, and will have a meet-up with documentaries and brainstorm.
Agenda
April 22: In this evening Naeri, Human rights activist, will speak about how Asylum policy in the Netherlands became a Russian Roulette and how propaganda against refugees and immigrants developed.
Nadji and Koko from refugee self organization “We Are Here’ will speak about their experiences as refugees and activists.
Emily, artist and buddy, will give you insight in being a buddy, supporting refugees in their lives and procedures.
April 29 meet- up.
The focus of this meet up will be decided in consultation with the audience at the evening in advance, either we have a creative brainstorm, provide more information or watch a documentary.
May 6 In this presentation, Egbert Alejandro Martina will focus on spatial politics and surveillance, and how certain groups are entitled to or excluded from access to different spaces.

May 27 meet- up concerning the imaging of immigrants:
Documentary ‘Polish for Beginners’
Directors Anna Witte and Josefien van Kooten sketch a quiet portrait of a hotel for working migrants in the Netherlands. In short heartfelt meetings with the Polish residents we get an insight of lives that are often 'put on hold', revealing us much more than the financial drives that lie behind the social issue of migration.
June 10: The power of activism and refugee self-organisation
Activist/writer and poet Joke Kaviaar will speak about No Border activism and the responsibility of people with papers to take action against the policies of 'their' governments. Also about campaigns against border prisons, especially the new family prison in Kamp Zeist."
Refugee activist Ilhaam Awees plus colleague from the We Are Here group will speak about the importance of the refugee self-organization, their struggle and power and their experiences.
In this evening we’ll also pay attention to the relationship between activists with and without papers, what are the best ways to co-operate in the struggle?
