Amsterdam and the Netherlands are heating up with climate activism!
Come and be inspired by the amazing documentary "Just Do It: A Tale of Modern-day Outlaws (2011)", a smart, funny adrenalised portrait of 21st century climate-activism. Trailer: http://youtu.be/zavTd31qxho
Following the screening of the film we will present the Amsterdam Climate Games 2014, a brand new, state-of the art and exciting concept in climate change activism developed by the Dutch campaign “We Will Stop Coal” (GroenFront).
Did you know that:
- the second biggest coal harbor of Europe is located in the west of Amsterdam, and the biggest in Rotterdam?
- there is also a NUON coal fired power plant in the harbor of Amsterdam?
- coal is the dirtiest form of energy generation? Every the NUON plant produces as much co2 as two million cars!
- instead of reducing our reliance on coal, there are currently three new coal power plants being constructed in the Netherlands?
Coal means we are exchanging the stability and health of the climate on which we all depend for some short term profit for a few! We say it is time for politicians and energy corporations to stop playing games with our climate. We say it is time we stop the madness that is coal. It is time to start playing by our rules!
Come and learn more about the dangerous plans to keep using coal in the Netherlands (and in Amsterdam), find out what the Climate Games will look like, why they are going to be so much fun, and learn how you and your friends can participate!
