De zoveelste sabotagedaad: “In verschillende departementen waren vandalistische acties gericht tegen de installaties van telefoonoperatoren SFR en Bouygues”, verklaarde de krant Le Parisien op maandag 29 juli.
De actie werd vannacht in heel Frankrijk gecoördineerd: kabels werden doorgesneden in de elektriciteitskasten van internetoperatoren in Hérault, Bouches-du-Rhône, Oise, Meuse, Drôme en Aude. Een manager van het digitale bedrijf Netalis legde uit dat “ons nationale netwerk sinds 2.15 uur een grote vertraging ondervindt”, met gevolgen in Montpellier en Marseille, evenals op de verbindingen Lyon-Parijs en Parijs-Straatsburg.
In de nacht van 25 op 26 juli werden in de gemeente Saint Orens de Gameville bij Toulouse een relaisantenne en een glasvezelverbindingsknooppunt in brand gestoken, vergezeld van een “No Olympics”-tag op de nabijgelegen toren. In een verklaring waarin de verantwoordelijkheid werd opgeëist, stond: “Er is geen Olympische wapenstilstand. Het retorische bombardement van de regering van verzoening door sport, zowel op geopolitiek als parlementair niveau, gaat hand in hand met militaire bombardementen over de hele wereld en een oorlog tegen bevolkingen. Wat voor wapenstilstand ook voor de Kanak-gevangenen die naar Franse gevangenissen worden gedeporteerd, aan wie politieke autonomie wordt ontzegd zodat onze mijnbouwbedrijven zich daar kunnen blijven volproppen met nikkel?
In een systeem dat gebaseerd is op een constante, ogenblikkelijke en geglobaliseerde uitwisseling van informatie, lijkt sabotage van het internetnetwerk toe te nemen. Al op 27 april 2022 veroorzaakte een reeks onderbrekingen in verschillende glasvezelkabels grote verstoringen, met name in de regio Parijs.
Deze acties tegen internetkabels volgen op andere sabotageaanvallen op het SNCF-netwerk. Tot slot meldde de pers maandag dat een “ultralinkse militant” was gearresteerd op een SNCF-terrein in Seine-Maritime, in het bezit van “toegangssleutels voor de technische lokalen van SNCF” en “boutensnijders”, zonder verdere details te geven.
Het aantal sabotage-incidenten is de afgelopen twee jaar toegenomen en baart de autoriteiten zorgen. Eind 2022 telde Le Figaro “niet minder dan 104 acties” tussen 1 januari en 30 oktober van dit jaar, waaronder “brandstichtingen op de elektriciteitskasten van 3G/4G-antennes en relaisantennes in de Savoie, vezelkasten in brand gestoken door banden in Finistère, kabels doorgesneden in de Var of Isère, sabotage van beschermde sites in naam van ‘sociale rechtvaardigheid’. Deze acties blijven niet beperkt tot revolutionaire en antikapitalistische kringen: twee monniken werden gearresteerd nadat ze in 2021 hoogspanningsmasten en basisstations in de buurt van Lyon in brand hadden gestoken.
Het woord “sabotage” komt uit het Frans en wordt in de meeste talen als zodanig gebruikt. Het zou zijn ontstaan bij arbeiders die hun klompen in machines gooiden om te voorkomen dat ze werkten. Aan het einde van de 19e eeuw maakte het revolutionaire syndicalisme sabotage populair. De anarchist Émile Pouget prees deze praktijk tegen de bazen. Voor hem betekende “slecht loon, slecht werk” dat zolang de rijken het geld niet teruggaven, de armen de plicht hadden om te protesteren door de machines te beschadigen en minder te werken, met andere woorden door de productie te saboteren.
Deze praktijk wordt wel vergeleken met het “Luddisme”, een woord ontleend aan de naam van Ned Ludd, een Engelse arbeider die weefgetouwen kapot maakte in Engeland aan het begin van de Industriële Revolutie. Luddisme verzette zich tegen de mechanisatie van het werk door machines te saboteren.
Tijdens de bezetting werd sabotage op grote schaal toegepast om fascisten en collaborateurs te bestrijden. Het Vrije Frankrijk stuurde zelfs speciaal getrainde saboteurs naar bezet Frankrijk om verzetsstrijders te trainen en zo de oorlogseconomie en het Duitse leger te hinderen. Sabotage werd vervolgens gebruikt tijdens de dekolonisaties. Tot slot is sabotage de laatste jaren weer in de mode gekomen door milieubewegingen die oproepen tot het “ontwapenen” van bedrijven die de planeet vernietigen.
In een tijd waarin het huidige regime niet meer luistert naar de straat, verenigingen of vakbonden, of zelfs maar naar de stemming, en alleen nog maar regeert door middel van onderdrukking, waarom zouden we dan verbaasd zijn over de terugkeer van dergelijke methoden?
Vanuit historisch oogpunt is sabotage geen vies woord: het maakt al 200 jaar deel uit van het gebruikelijke repertoire van sociale strijd. Het is een geweldloze actie, uitsluitend gericht op materialen en niet op mensen, met als doel economische schade te veroorzaken. Het is het wapen van de zwakkeren tegen de sterken, van hen die de middelen niet hebben, tegen gewapende politiestaten.
