Protest Against Abortion Ban in Poland

BACKGROUND

In October 2020, Polish protests followed the 22 October 2020 Constitutional Tribunal's ruling banning one of the three reasons allowing legal abortion in Poland. On 27 October Ogolnopolski Strajk Kobiet stated that the aims of the protests are:
✔full women's rights: legal abortion, sex education, and contraception
✔Rejecting the Constitutional Tribunal's ruling
✔the return of a real (independent) Constitutional Tribunal
✔the return to a neutral (independent) Supreme Court of Poland that is not controlled by the Law and Justice party (PiS)
✔the appointment of a real (independent, not someone from the ruling party) Polish Ombudsman, to replace Adam Bodnar, who reached the end of his term.

IMPLICATIONS

The number of legal abortions in Poland totaled 1100 cases in 2019. In Spain, a country with a similar population, this number was over 90.000.
The three instances in which a woman can have a legal abortion are:
✔In case of rape or incest
✔In case of threat of death of the mother
✔In case of fetal complications
In 98% of those 1100 cases the reason for the abortion was fetal complications, which implied very low likelihood of survival after the birth, or otherwise severe illness or disability. This reason for abortion has now been declared unconstitutional by the Polish Constitutional Tribunal.
Banning abortion does not mean stopping abortion, it only makes it less safe. Polish abortion law was already one of the strictest in Europe and Polish women were already going to neighboring countries like Germany or the Netherlands in order to get this procedure. However, this option is only available to those who can afford it. Polish women could be now forced to turn to highly unsafe methods of abortion.

DEMANDS AND GOALS

Our politics is complex and corrupt. That is why in solidarity with Ogolnopolski Strajk Kobiet we will also keep in mind the 13 demands and goals of OSK. Those are amongst others; full women's rights and abortion on demand, LGBTQ+ community are not an “ideology”, stopping fascism, stopping climate change, modern education, funding psychiatry, support for mobility, stopping media propaganda.

SAFETY

- Keep 1,5 meter distance from each other at all times
- Please wear facial masks at all times
- Follow the instructions of the volunteers
- Screaming and singing is not allowed due to the possibility of spreading COVID-19
- Last but not least, if you don’t feel well please stay at home!

De Poolse protesten van oktober 2020 volgden op de uitspraak van het Constitutioneel Hof van 22 oktober 2020 waarbij een van de drie resterende redenen voor legale abortus in Polen werd verboden. Op 27 oktober verklaarde Ogolnopolski Strajk Kobiet dat de doelstellingen van de protesten het volgende waren:
✔Voltallige rechten voor vrouwen: legale abortus, seksuele voorlichting en anticonceptie
✔Verwerpen van de uitspraak van het Constitutioneel Hof
✔De terugkeer van een echt (onafhankelijk) Constitutioneel Hof
✔De terugkeer naar een neutraal (onafhankelijk) Hooggerechtshof van Polen dat niet wordt bestuurd door de partij Wet en Rechtvaardigheid (PiS)
✔De benoeming van een echte (onafhankelijk, niet iemand van de regerende partij) Poolse Ombudsman ter vervanging van Adam Bodnar, die het einde van zijn ambtstermijn heeft bereikt.

IMPLICATIES

Het aantal legale abortussen in Polen bedroeg in 2019 in totaal 1100 gevallen. In Spanje, een land met een vergelijkbare bevolking, bedroeg dit aantal meer dan 90.000.
Drie gevallen waarin een vrouw een legale abortus kan ondergaan, zijn:
✔In het geval van verkrachting of incest
✔In het geval van een risico van overlijden van de moeder
✔In het geval van extreem risico voor de foetus

In 98% van die legale abortussen werd een extreem risico voor de foetus aangehaald als reden, wat impliceert dat de foetus een zeer lage overlevingskans had of enorm ziek of beperkt geboren zou worden.
Deze reden voor abortus is nu onwettig verklaard door het Poolse Constitutioneel Hof.
Abortus verbieden betekent niet dat abortus wordt gestopt, het maakt het alleen minder veilig. De Poolse abortuswet was al een van de strengste in Europa en Poolse vrouwen zochten deze procedure in buurlanden als Duitsland of Nederland. Zelfs deze optie is echter alleen beschikbaar voor degenen die het zich kunnen veroorloven. Poolse vrouwen zouden nu kunnen worden gedwongen om over te gaan tot zeer onveilige abortusmethoden.

EISEN EN DOELEN

De politiek in Polen is complex en corrupt. Daarom zullen we solidair zijn Ogolnopolski Strajk Kobiet ook de 13 eisen en doelen van OSK in gedachten houden. Dat zijn onder andere; Volledige vrouwenrechten en abortus op verzoek, LGBTQ + -gemeenschap is geen "ideologie", het stoppen van facisme, het stoppen van klimaatverandering, modern onderwijs, financiering van psychiatrie, steun voor mobiliteit, het stoppen van mediapropaganda.

VEILIGHEID
- Houd er rekening mee dat iedereen ten alle tijden 1,5 meter afstand houdt
- Draag altijd een mondkapje
- Volg de instructies van de vrijwilligers op
- Schreeuwen en zingen is niet toegestaan ​​in verband met mogelijke verspreiding van COVID-19
- Last but not least, blijf alsjeblieft thuis als je je niet lekker voelt!

SYTUACJA

W Październiku 2020 po orzeczeniu Trybunału Konstytucyjnego z 22 października 2020 r. W Polsce rozpoczęły się ogólnopolskie protesty. Wyrok trybunału oświadczył zakaz jednej z trzech możliwości dopuszczających legalną aborcję w Polsce. W dniu 27 października Ogólnopolski Strajk Kobiet opublikował następujące cele protestów
pełne prawa kobiet:
✔legalna aborcja, edukacja seksualna i antykoncepcja
✔Odrzucenie orzeczenia Trybunału Konstytucyjnego
✔powrót prawdziwego niezależnego Trybunału Konstytucyjnego
✔powrót do neutralnego niezależnego Sądu Najwyższego RP, który nie jest kontrolowany przez Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS)
✔powołanie prawdziwego niezależnego, nie należącego do partii rządzącej Rzecznika Praw Obywatelskich na miejsce Adama Bodnara, który zakończył swoją kadencję.

IMPLIKACJE

Liczba legalnych aborcji w Polsce wyniosła 1 100 przypadków w 2019 r. W Hiszpanii, kraju o podobnej liczbie ludności, liczba ta przekraczała 90 000.
Trzy przypadki, w których kobieta mogła dokonać legalnej aborcji, to:
✔W przypadku gwałtu lub kazirodztwa
✔W przypadku groźby śmierci matki
✔W przypadku powikłań płodowych
90% tych legalnych aborcji było wykonywanych tylko w przypadku powikłań u płodu, które implikowały bardzo niskie prawdopodobieństwo przeżycia po porodzie.
Obecnie zostało to uznane za niezgodne z prawem przez polski Trybunał Konstytucyjny.
Zakaz aborcji nie oznacza zaprzestania aborcji, a jedynie czyni ją mniej bezpieczną. Polskie prawo aborcyjne było już jednym z najsurowszych w Europie, a Polki zabiegały o procedurze aborcji w sąsiednich krajach, takich jak Niemcy czy Holandia. Nawet ta opcja jest jednak dostępna tylko dla tych, których na to stać. Polki mogą być teraz zmuszone do skorzystania z wysoce niebezpiecznych metod aborcji.

WYMAGANIA I CELE

Polska polityka jest złożona i skorumpowana. Dlatego w myśli Ogólnopolskiego Strajku Kobiet będziemy protestowali także o 13 postulatach i celach OSK. Są to między innymi; pełne prawa kobiet i aborcja na żądanie, społeczność LGBTQ + nie jest „ideologią”, stop faszyzmowi, zmiany klimatyczne, nowoczesną edukację, finansowanie psychiatrii, wspieranie mobilności, powstrzymywanie propagandy medialnej.

BEZPIECZEŃSTWO

- Pamiętaj, aby trzymać się 1,5 metra od siebie
- Zawsze należy nosić maseczkę na twarzy
- Postępuj zgodnie z instrukcjami wolontariuszy
- Krzyczenie i śpiew są niedozwolone ze względu na możliwość rozprzestrzeniania się COVID-19
- Jeśli nie czujesz się dobrze, zostań w domu!
