The Press Office of People’s Defense Units (YPG) released a statement announcing the martyrdom of an Italian volunteer in Baghouz, Deir ez-Zor. The statement said the following;
“Lorenzo Orsetti (Tekoşer Piling) joined the ranks of Rojava’s defence forces from Italy in 2017. As an internationalist revolutionary, he took an active part in the struggle for freedom for a long time.
Tekoşer Piling took his place in our internationalist units within YPG at the forefront of the resistance against Turkey’s invasion of Afrin. He played a significant role in the struggle for freedom, enduring all conditions with great determination.
He also fought with great sacrifice and determination in the Jazira Storm campaign to oust ISIS from its final enclave in Deir al-Zour. Comrade Tekoşer played an active role in the TKP/ML-TİKKO international units during his time in the region, with a principled and determined stance that embodies the universal values of socialism.
Comrade Tekoşer, who led an exemplary life through his devotion to the revolution, was martyred on March 18th during a conflict as part of operations against the last area occupied by ISIS.
While commemorating all our international comrades who have fallen martyr in the Rojava revolution, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our fallen comrade.”
Nom de guerre: Tekoşer Piling
Name and surname: Lorenzo Orsetti
Date and place of birth: 1986 - Italy
Date and place of martyrdom: March 18, 2019 – Deir al-Zour
In a message written before his martyrdom, the Italian volunteer said the following;
“Hello. If you are reading this message then it means that I am no longer of this World. Don’t be too sad, though, I’m OK with it; I don’t have any regrets and I died doing what I thought was right, defending the weak and staying true to my ideals of justice, equality and liberty.
So in spite of my premature department, my life has been a success, and I’m almost certain that I went with a smile on my face. I couldn’t have asked for.
I wish all of you all the best in the World and I hope that one day, you too will decide to give your life for others (if you haven’t already) because that is the only way to change the world. Only by combatting the individualism and egoism in each of us can we make a difference. These are difficult times, I know, but don’t give in to despair, don’t ever abandon hope, never! Not even for a second.
Even when all seems lost, when the evils that plague the earth and humanity seem insurmountable, you must find strength, you must inspire strength in your comrades. It is in the darkest moments that we have greatest need of your light. And remember always that “every storm begins with a single raindrop”. You must be that raindrop.
I love you all, I hope you will treasure these words for time to come.
Serkeftin!
Orso,
Tekoşer,
Lorenzo."
hmm
i'm finding it good that people commemorate the international comrades but what about the hundreds of dead kurdish YPG fighters? why don't we hear about them?
"defending the weak" - seems like we got a white saviour here
martelaar
