A son's letter to the world

Kurdish mom Teybet İnan (57) was shot by Turkish police in Silopi and her body couldn't be reached for 7 days. This is the letter of her son:

"When my mom was shot, when they informed us, we rushed there. My uncle had attempted to reach her, they had shot him too. When I arrived my neighbours were carrying my uncle. “My mom?” I asked, “She is lying in the street” they said. I tried to get to my mom, they stopped me. I cried, cried, cried. My mom just stayed there, lying in the street. My mom was moving a little at first, but the movement stopped as hours went by. We call everyone, MPs, governors… We called all of the officials, telling them my mom is dead by now, but at least allow us to get her body. What was my mom feeling? She surely was in a lot of pain, she must have suffered a lot. Rarely do we express love but my mom gave us a hug worth the world, thousands of words cannot express the love it carried. My mom remained in the street for exactly 7 days. None of us slept, fearing that dogs would come, birds would disturb her. My mom was just lying there as we were dying of grief 150 meters away. The (Turkish) state put us through that for 7 days.
Imagine seeing your mother lying dead in the middle of the street for 7 days! One cannot remain good, one cannot remain human. My mother’s hands were stiff, she had apparently squeezed her scarf out of pain. I kissed her hands, asking for forgiveness, but they were hard. Her blood and street’s dirt had dried up on her hands and face. Her clothes were first wetted with her blood, then dried up. My mom’s smell was gone, she smelled like blood and soil. The blood and dirt had hardened her hair. Those who believe in god had taken the life of my mom. My mom’s eyes were open, head facing home, she had pulled her legs in, an apparent last attempt to try to get home. Do you have moms? Kids? I cannot describe the pain of losing my mom, just too big. For seven days, exactly seven days in the throes of winter, my mom was lying dead in the middle of the street. You know what’s more painful? Not knowing how long she bled to death. I wish she just died the moment she was shot."
