This weekend an international meeting of refugees, migrants and activists was held in Amsterdam. After Brussels, Berlin, Rome and Freiburg, this was the fifth meeting to talk about plans for a campaign around the European elections in May and the migration summit in Brussels in June.
People came from Belgium, France, Italy and different places of Germany. Also a big group from We Are Here attended together with various groups and activists from The Netherlands. The meetings had the challenge of translating into different languages, but in the end a lot was discussed. On Sunday the working-groups were scheduled, so the sessions took place in much smaller groups.
The venue had an amazing bar and kitchen and Rampenplan, assisted by We Are Here, provided us with great food. In the evening we talked about our experiences around refugees and their protests in the different countries and also we made music and had a lot of fun.
On Saturday evening we visited the Vluchtgarage, where the group invited us for special tea and told the visitors the story of We Are Here. On Sunday a smaller delegation visited the Vluchthaven, where they did several interviews for a radio program.
It was a successful meeting and a great way of creating contacts between people in different European countries fighting the same European policies. Now it is time to start working on the campaign from The Netherlands. We will update you soon about the plans and ideas.
