 Afgelopen zaterdag 27 juni was er in Calais een demonstratie tegen de grenzen van Fort Europa. Calais is de havenstad waar honderden geïlligaliseerde migranten wachten op het moment dat ze kunnen oversteken naar Engeland in de hoop dat ze daar een nieuw leven kunnen opstarten. Tussen de 1500 en 2000 mensen namen deel aan de demonstratie.

 Yesterday the 8th LGBTIQ (lesbiangaytransintersexualqueer) pride took place with around 500 people in zagreb, the capital of croatia. Beforhand the pride organisers made clear with their call that public visibility is very important from their point of view to make the choice of non-heteronormal ways of life possible.
The pride this year was for two reasons something special. On the one hand the stonewall riots have their 40th anniversary in 2009. On the other hand it was first time this year that a legal "anti-pride" demonstration was announced by variouse small croatian fascist and nationalist groups and parties. This is a request for people to put pressure on Van Oord to help force them from Broadhaven Bay.Van Oord is the company contracted by Shell to carry out dredging work for the off-shore gas pipeline. Today (5/06/09), when activists from the Solidarity Camp occupied one of Van Oord’s two dredging machines, the “Razende Bol”, they were met by severe violence from Shell security aboard the ships. One protester was thrown overboard by two security guards. (See: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/92596 or youtube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC7xrRQHQ6k ). Following this incident the Van Oord ships stopped working and left the area. Despite official statements from Van Oord claiming that they left due to bad weather, a Shell security guard told people that their departure was due to protester action and that Van Oord were unwilling to work with the reckless Shell security endangering protesters and compromising workers safety.
