Hier kun je discussieren over Vrije Bond presents: 'Marx in Soho'.
Nog maar weinig mensen zijn bekend met de theorieën van Marx. Zijn ideeën
zijn vergeten of voor dood achtergelaten. De bekende linkse historicus en
activist Howard Zinn wilde daar wat aan doen en schreef het toneelstuk
‘Marx in Soho’ om te laten zien dat Marx’ ideeën nog steeds relevant zijn.
Zinn is bekend van zijn meesterwerk A people’s history of the United
States, waarin hij de geschiedenis van de VS beschrijft van onderop.

Het toneelstuk duurt ongeveer een uur, bestaat uit een monoloog en is
Engels gesproken. De acteur Jerry Levi is docent Sociologie aan het
Marlboro College in de V.S.. Door zijn achtergrond als socioloog en zijn
betrokkenheid bij het onderwerp weet hij een fascinerende blik geven in de
persoon en ideeën van Karl Marx en zijn relatie tot de sociale beweging,
zijn vrouw Johanna en zijn politieke rivaal Michael Bakoenin.

Few people are familiar with Marx's theories these days. The activist and
historian Howard Zinn wanted to chance that. He wrote 'Marx in Soho' to
show the relevance of Marx's ideas in today's world. Howard Zinn is
famous for his masterpiece 'A people’s history of the United States' in
which he describes the history of the US from the bottom up.
The play is about an hour long and consists of a monolouge in English. The
actor Jerry Levy is a sociology professor at the Marlboro College. Because of his background and his personal involvement he provides a fascinating look into
the personality of Karl Marx, his ideas, his relations to the various social
movements of the time and his relations to his wife Johanna, his daughters and his political nemesis Michael Bakunin.
