English translation of petition and invitation to sign petition against eviction of Villa friekens
Dear Friends,
Recently we heard that our free space, Villa Friekens, is put on the evictionlist. Allready for ten years we live and work here, with about thirty people.
The government has contacted the owner and asked if he wanted the place to be evicted. Off course Imtech agreed to that, the eviction was offered to them on a plate. The reason for this still has to be made up. After some research we found out that indeed there are no plans at all. Because the owner is not sure what he is gonna do with the terrain, he wants to put anti squat there instead of us.
This is the world upside down. As a a squatter you keep in mind that one day there will be a plan with the building and that you will not live there till eternity.
On the 1st of october 2010 the anti squat law was activated, from that moment on, squatting became illegal. Villa Friekens will be evicted, only for the fact that the law makes it possible and not because there are plans. That the law is being used as a means to reach a goal, is one thing, but that the law is being used as a goal in itself is too crazy for words.
Villa Friekens has good relations with the neigbourhood, the local city council and the local police. We offer space for artists, starting up small busenisses, circusartists, musicians, people who find it hard to adjust in the "regular" society and people who like to live in this way, without being a threat to others. It is a shame to make all those people homeless and to take away one of the last free creative spaces in Amsterdam, just to put a few anti squatters instead. Who has any profit from that ?
This cannot be the meaning of the anti squat law, we are very shocked how it has come to this and would like to ask of anyone who wants to do something to show their support for the Villa Friekens!

We do not agree with the upcoming eviction of Villa Friekens.
Villa Friekens:
- gives a home to 30 people includingf children
- offers space for people to develop themselves culturally
- is always open for contact with the neigbourhood, city council, local police and owner.
The fact that there are no plans for the terrain and that the people who live there are not a burdon to anyone makes an eviction totally useless.
I sign against eviction of this beautiful place for emptiness and/or anti squat!
