Justice for Trans Refugees/ In Memory of XingShun Zhou/Angel

Friday 5th of March, at 14:00-16:00
IND-loket, Pieter Calandlaan 1, Amsterdam

The Dutch Asylum System Kills! Demonstration to demand justice for trans refugees & for XingShun Zhou/Angel.

Two days ago, on February 26, 2021, 23-year old XingShun Zhou (Angel), a trans woman asylum seeker from China, died by suicide, jumping in front of a train in the village of Echt, the Netherlands, where she lived in a Asylum Reception Center (AZC).

The Dutch asylum system killed XingShun Shou and is killing our queer & trans refugee community on a daily basis. ACZs in NL are very unsafe, in bad conditions, in remote areas, functioning like modern prisons where asylum seekers endure endless waiting times by the IND (Dutch Immigration), and as a result, severe mental health problems & suicide. The Dutch asylum policy is extremely inhumane & leads to the denial of basic human rights for asylum seekers in the Netherlands, & causes their death, literally.

We stand against IND’s inhumane asylum policy and its long waiting times, against its unfair and arbitrary interviews of the “not gay/trans enough”, against the “safe country” system, against unsafe, overcrowded and remote AZC reception locations, against deportations, against the Dublin agreement, against anti-migration policies, against Frontex, against the VISA system, against the police & detention centers.

We stand against the term “European refugee crisis” because it neglects the root causes for fleeing: political repression & economic poverty which are due to wars funded by Western countries. We want accountability in the EU. We stand against the EU weapons export to dictatorships in the global South, its direct support to authoritarian regimes & repression of uprisings in the global South. Europe is a war machine.

XingShun Zhou/Angel’s death, like the death of other queer & trans asylum seekers, will never be forgiven or forgotten. Let’s honor and celebrate the life and bravery of XingShun Zhou/Angel. Let’s call for justice for trans refugees, & an end to the inhumane Dutch asylum system.

Bring candles and flowers and banners. There will be an Open Mic, we will have a megaphone in case you want to speak.

Wear masks. Keep your 1.5 meter distance. Do not show up if you have any COVID symptoms.

Zero tolerance for transphobia/TERFism, homophobia, lesbophobia, misogyny, anti-blackness, racism, Islamophobia, Zionism, support of authoritarianism/totalitarianism, or any other kind of oppressive behavior/beliefs.
