Posters in Rotterdam in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, hunger striker in Greece
THE STATES MURDERS, WE WILL NOT LET IT HAPPEN
It’s been more than 50 days that the Greek political prisoner Dimitris Koufontinas is under hunger strike while on the 22nd of February he also started a thirst strike protesting against his treatment by the Greek Government.
Koufontinas is an accused member of the Revolutionary Organization 17 November (N17), an urban guerrilla group that was active between 1975 and 2002. He demands, as provided by law, to return to the cells of Korydallos prison in the city of Athens, where he was held for 16 years and where his family and lawyers are located.
Despite the constant appeals and protests of thousands of citizens (including well known lawyers, doctors and politicians), the current right wing political party (New Democracy) seems to be determined to kill the hunger and thirst striker Dimitris Koufontinas. With pretentious and false excuses, they act vengefully towards an unarmed and already convicted opponent, refusing to satisfy his fair request.

This illegal and anti-democratic treatment of a prisoner concerns us all. It is a clear violation of human rights that needs to be stopped in the name of everyone’s dignity. Otherwise, Dimitris Koufontinas will be the first political prisoner to die in Europe (excluding Turkey) since Bobby Sands under Margarett Thatcher in 1981.
First of all, they came to take the gypsies and I was happy because they pilfered.
Then they came to take the Jews and I said nothing,
because they were unpleasant to me.
Then they came to take homosexuals, and I was relieved,
because they were annoying me.
Then they came to take the Communists,
and I said nothing because I was not a Communist.
One day they came to take me, and there was nobody left to protest
