We are back after a little break with our first Reading Group of the year, this time we will talk about seeds! Seeds, innately embedded with ecological as well as cultural meaning, have been turned into patented private property, a commodity to be sold and purchased. We will learn how the system of GMO seeds and privatization has come to be, which narratives are used by large seed corporations and also, what seed relationships we can have outside of the framework set by corporate powers and lobbies.
The readings this time are:
- A Comic: Seed Stories- Fighting against the privatization of life
- 2 Chapters from the book "The Seed Underground: A Growing Revolution to Save Food" by Janisse Ray
...And we also want to explore the website: https://www.accesstoseeds.org/index/global-seed-companies/ for insights into the language of corporate seed businesses.
If you want to participate you can contact alina[at]aseed[dot]net to reserve a spot. Keep in mind, that even if we are meeting online we want to keep the group small to enable a fruitful discussion so the max. amount of participants are 16 people. Once you have signed up we will send you the readings for this session and also later the zoom link to join the event. No previous knowledge is required, anyone who joins can have valuable insights!
ASEED is a small collective mostly run by volunteers. As always our events are free and open to anyone, but if you have the financial capacity to contribute during this crisis in any small way it would be greatly appreciated! You can do so by visiting the SUPPORT US (https://aseed.net/donate-to-a-seed-2/) page on our website!
