Sabrina Flourez, Amazon LIL1, Lille, France, said: “The real question is: do we really need what we could order from Amazon during the pandemic period? Does this justify putting employees at risk? In France, warehouse workers said “NO!”
We told Bezos that he can’t make millions off our backs selling non-essential junk. We walked out, took Amazon to court and won. Our court victory forces Amazon to finally take workers’ organizations seriously. This is a big problem at Amazon all over the world, as the company doesn’t consider us to be partners in decisions that concern our work. During the pandemic, Amazon decided about everything on its own. They decided that their business is more important than our safety. I hope that our victory helps other Amazon workers around the world get more control at the workplace where we spend the majority of our lives.”
Amazon Workers International (AWI)
Amazon Workers International is a cross-border coalition of Amazon workers from different countries, including Germany, Poland, Spain, France and the US, who have been involved in every-day organizing, and different forms of struggle.
We are Amazon workers who know the reality of warehouse workers. We exchange information, support each other and find common strategies for our fight for better working conditions in the warehouses and beyond.
We share common ideas and plan common actions. Despite all of our differences, we are united by the fact that we are facing a common employer. We do not unite out of idealism, but because we know that only united we have a chance to assert our interests against Amazon effectively.
Solutions cannot be individual. We are sure they will work only if introduced across the borders, by all of us together.
