A strategic conversation about climate struggle and agriculture, on the 3rd to the 5th of May in Copenhagen.

What is the connection between the agricultural, climate and capitalist crisis? The food system is one of the largest reasons for global warming that causes climate changes. While everything from water melons, synthetic fertilisers and bacon are shipped over the globe, the plantations are spreading. And they are displacing farmers, clearing habitats and creating a "green desert" of soy, rice and corn everywhere. We see how climate change is having real effects from drought to flooding and that people naturally start to move, while we simultaneously witness the construction of fences and borders in the landscape.

Most of the 20th century revolutions began from farmers uprising, but today the majority of people on our planet live in cities. In a sense, this makes us all children of displaced farmers. We don't perceive the change of seasons, do not know the names of those plants and animals, that continue to disappear from our world, and we perhaps most importantly: we have been robbed from the practical knowledge of one of the most important forms of autonomy, the ability to feed ourselves. In a way, we have lost the ability to come down to earth. Where does this leave us ? How does a resistance to these crises look like, how do we acquire practical skills and could we perhaps develop a form of ecology that does not just lend itself to being a label on a commodity?

What is going to happen?
We are inviting to a weekend seminar in the tension field between ecology, climate, agriculture, capitalism and colonialism. The seminar strives to mix analytical perspectives, strategies to action and practical examples of ecological forms of life - because we want to live think and fight equally!

We are not aiming for agreement, but we want to become more knowledgeable. We want to focus on reflection and talking, even though we also want to talk about how to act. That means that we are going to sit and listen for a while but with the time to discuss and breaks where the format is more open.
We will also have a proper lunch both days in the ground floor of Folkets Hus.

Who can participate?
We are not looking for experts as much as people who in general are interested. You don't need to posses a ph.d. in agricultural history, even though probably one or two with those will be there. We encourage people who are not cismen to reach out. And we would cancel the seminar if it is just going to be cismen talking the entire weekend. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who are interested and want to present problems and ideas about: intersectional aspects of agriculture and the climate catastrophe, climate racism and the link between the partriarchy and the destruction of nature, the metropolis as a colonial strategy and strategic analyses for resistance.

By inviting for this seminar, we don't intend to agree on everything, but we want to get smarter together and we want to start a conversation about agriculture, ecology and climate that allows us to act more strategically.

Talks: 10-30 minutes with a following discussion for 30 min.

Unfortunately, the 1st floor in Folkets hus is not wheelchair accesible. Danish will be the primary language spoken at the seminar, but talks (incl. follow-up discussion) can be in Danish, Swedish and English.
