UK August cycle ride to Code Red action camp

**Save the date** From 18th - 23rd August 2018 a passionate and friendly crew of cyclists will make their way from London UK to join the Code Red action camp in the north of the Netherlands. We will cycle from London to Harwich, take the ferry over and cycle north to Groningen. ***People in the Netherlands are invited to join the ride in Utrecht on August 21st. The population of the area of Groningen have been battling against the Nam, a joint Shell/ExxonMobil project, since the early 1960's. The Nam's gas extraction from the biggest gas field in Europe is causing earthquakes at an unprecedented rate.
The Dutch state is in collusion with the Nam but pressure is boiling over: The people of Groningen will no longer allow the gas extraction that has caused damage to one in five homes. Two local people are currently on hunger strike calling on the Nam to halt the process entirely. The Dutch state is caught in the headlights. With the support of Ende Gelande, Code Red are heading to Groningen with an action camp from 24th to 31st August and to join forces with the local people around Groningen's liberation day on the 28th of August, enough is enough. Here and no further. Thousands of people will be using their bodies to stop the extraction themselves. When politicians are unwilling to act quickly enough to stop the fossil fuel industry from pushing us beyond global temperature tipping points, it is up to us.
This is set to be one of the largest actions of the international climate movement this summer. Save the dates, join us for the ride, stay for the camp.
The cycle will be accessible to a wide range of cycling abilities with sub groups cycling at different paces, from the comfortable & many-rest-stops bunch to the eager & speedy crew, everyone is welcome. Expect idyllic river swims en route. Each evening we will convene at a location to eat and celebrate and camp together. In augustus 2018 fietst er een enthousiaste en aardige groep fietsers vanuit Londen naar het Code Rood actiekamp in Groningen. Mensen in Nederland kunnen aansluiten in Utrecht in de avond van 21 augustus (of vroeg in de ochtend 22 augustus). We komen 24 augustus aan op het kamp.
OVER DE FIETSTOCHT: De fietstocht gaat via de Veluwe richting het noorden. De tocht is toegankelijk voor allerlei soorten fietsers. Er zullen subgroepen op verschillende snelheden fietsen, van de mensen die het liever rustig aan doen tot de enthousiaste en snelle types, iedereen is welkom. Verwacht frisse duiken in rivieren of meertjes onderweg. Elke avond zullen we samenkomen op een locatie om gezamenlijk te eten, te feesten en te kamperen. OVER CODE ROOD: De gaskraan in Groningen moet dicht en alle aardbevingsschade moet worden vergoed. Maar de NAM, Shell en Exxon blijven maar doorpompen. En de regering laat het gebeuren. Vanuit Stad en Ommeland, Groningen én daarbuiten slaan we de handen ineen rondom het Gronings ontzet op 28 augustus. Met de eerste grootschalige burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheidsactie in Groningen geven wij een duidelijk signaal: de gaskraan moet dicht! Iedereen kan hierbij een belangrijke bijdrage leveren, ervaring is niet noodzakelijk. Ook organiseert Code Rood samen met Groningers een ACTIEKAMP IN GRONINGEN van 24 tot 31 augustus. Hier kan je een gevarieerd programma volgen van workshops, trainingen en open discussies over de gaswinning en een fossielvrije samenleving. En ’s avonds kampvuur en muziek. Je kan op het kamp blijven overnachten of een dagje langskomen. Kom en laat je stem horen!
