Let’s shut down the UK’s largest opencast coal mine. Announcing the next Reclaim the Power mass action camp: End Coal Now.
As part of the Groundswell year of action and the Break Free international mobilisations taking on the fossil fuel industry, this May, we’re going to shut down the UK’s largest opencast coal mine – Ffos-y-fran in south Wales.

The local community in Merthyr have fought for years to resist the corporate owners of the mine, Miller Argent, who pollute the area and whose coal fuels dirty Aberthaw power station. The company are now trying to force through plans for a huge new opencast mine on common land next door at Nant Llesg - despite it being rejected by the council last year.
From Saturday 30th April to Wednesday 4th May, we’ll be setting up camp near Merthyr Tydfil in solidarity with the community, and in support of a wave of resistance to fossil fuel extraction around the world. We’ll then take mass action to shut down Ffos-y-fran, the UK’s largest opencast coal mine.
