This edition of the People's Kitchen is focusing on TTIP: the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the EU and the US, which has been negotiated behind closed doors.
Have you heard about TTIP? If your answer is no, don’t get too worried; you’re not meant to.
What you ARE expected (and warmly invited) to, is the upcoming March’s People’s Kitchen: TTIP edition. You’ll learn a bunch of -quite shocking- facts about the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (i.e. TTIP) and what you can do to stop it!
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is a proposed free trade agreement, in negotiation, between the United States and the European Union. Its proponents claim that the agreement will benefit consumers with lower prices, increased competition and more jobs. However, very little of the TTIP deals with trade; the vast majority of the agreement relates to government regulations and will therefore have huge implications in matters such as food sovereignty, digital rights and the environment. It will limit the capacity of governments and local groups to regulate and increase the capacity of transnational corporations to act with impunity.
So here we are again inviting you to come and enjoy (and better yet help in creating!) a delicious feast created from surplus food donated by local suppliers!
After digging into an extravagant freegan dinner, we will show a short video on the TTIP agreement. Following the screening, we will have someone involved in the initiatives to stop TTIP give you the quick and dirty deets on their purpose and plans.
And YES! You are very welcome to contribute YOUR culinary skills in food preparation starting at 15:00 onwards. It’s a beautiful afternoon atmosphere with music, friends and delicious smells from the stove! Be part of it! Of course it is also perfectly ok to just come at 18.30 for the dinner or at 19:30 for the screening/talk. Bring a friend or come on your own and make new friends!
In short, the program looks like this:
** 15:00 cooking
** 18:30 dinner
** 19.30 video and presentation
** 20.00 drinks and relaxation
You can come and leave as you please! We're happy to see your face even for a short time!
Address: MKZ, Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16, Amsterdam
Price for the dinner: voluntary donation
