Waar: MKZ, Eerste Schinkelstraat 16, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Wanneer: 11/01/2014 - 15:00
This edition of the People's Kitchen and Rebel Cinema is dedicated to the upcoming Global Divestment Day actions in the Netherlands and the subject of climate activism more broadly. On Sunday 11 there will be Voku in MKZ, on Wednesday 21 there will be film screening in Joe's. All donated funds will go to support the Hambacher Forst occupation.
We warmly invite you to come and enjoy a banquet created from surplus food donated by local suppliers, followed by a short video screening and action presentation that offers exciting and subversive ideas.
The January edition of the People's Kitchen (Sunday January 11 in MKZ) and Rebel Cinema (Wednesday 21 in Joe's Garage) will be dedicated to the subject of climate activism. Specific attention will be given to Global Divestment Day (GDD), the world-wide days of action against the fossil fuel industry coming up on February 13 and 14 of 2015 (http://gofossilfree.org/divestment-day/).
We will show a short video (3 min.) in which 350.org founder Bill McKibben explains the simple but terrifying math behind the problem of global warming. Following the screening, the people involved in the divestment movement in the Netherlands will present their plans for big and exciting climate action in Amsterdam and throughout the Netherlands on Global Divestment Day.
As usual, you are very welcome to contribute your culinary skills in food preparation starting at 15:00 h onward. It’s a lovely afternoon atmosphere with music, friends and delicious smells from the stove! Of course it is also perfectly ok to just come at 18.30 h for the dinner or at 19:30h for the screening/talk. Bring a friend or come on your own and make new friends!
In short, the program for the afternoon/evening looks like this:
** 15:00 cooking
** 18:30 dinner
** 19.30 video and presentation
** 20.00 drinks
Address: MKZ, Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16, Amsterdam
Price for the dinner: voluntary donation, which will be used to support the brave people occupying the ancient Hambacher Forst in the German Rhineland since the spring of 2012, to defend it from being destroyed to enable the expansion of the climate-killing open cast brown coal mines, just 35 kilometers over the border with the Netherlands (more info: http://hambachforest.blogsport.de/).
