We warmly invite you to come and enjoy a banquet created from surplus food donated by local suppliers, followed by a documentary screening that offers exciting and subversive ideas. All donations for the food will be given to XminY action fund.
This edition of the People's Kitchen will be dedicated to the subject of worker self-management and economic democracy. We will screen a short documentary (21 min.) about the Vio.Me. factory in Thessaloniki, Greece, which has grown into a symbol of self-management internationally.
In July 2011, the workers of Vio.Me. collectively decided to occupy their factory after it was abandoned by the bankrupt owner. On February 12, 2013 production was restarted under worker’s control. For many, the factory represents a new potential way forward for unemployed workers in Greece – seizing the means of production, running factories without bosses, producing only goods that are needed, and distributing them through solidarity networks.
This screening will serve as an introduction to a more in-depth discussion on the theory and practice of the cooperative economy on Wednesday December 17 in the Spinhuis, which will include a screening of the documentary "TOGETHER: How cooperatives show resilience to the crisis" (2012, 39 min) as well as a presentation by the organic food wholesale worker coop De Nieuwe Band: https://www.facebook.com/events/560696180697201/
As usual, you are very welcome to contribute your culinary skills in food preparation starting at 15:00 h onward. It’s a lovely afternoon atmosphere with music, friends and delicious smells from the stove! Of course it is also perfectly ok to just come at 18.00 h for the dinner or at 19:30h for the screening/talk. Bring a friend or come on your own and make new friends!
In short, the program for the afternoon/evening looks like this:

** 19.30 screening of "Vio.Me: Self-Organization in Greece"
Address: MKZ, Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16, Amsterdam
Price for the dinner is a voluntary donation, which will be given to the XminusY action fund, which supports social movements, actiongroups and changemakers across the globe who are involved in grassroots fights for a fair, democratic, sustainable and tolerant world: https://xminy.nl/
