In January 2012, animal rights activist Jordan Halliday began a 10-month prison sentence for criminal contempt of court.
In 2009, Jordan was found in contempt of court for refusing to testify before a federal grand jury investigating fur farm raids in Utah. After more than 3 months behind bars, he was released but was then charged with criminal contempt. "It is believed to be the first time in two decades, and only the third time in U.S. history, that someone has been imprisoned for criminal contempt of court after already serving prison time for civil contempt" (greenisthenewred.com).
