On Thursday, December 20th, 2012 Nikos Stavrakakis, president of the POSDEP (the so-called Pan-Hellenic Federation of University Professors–Researchers’ Associations), made sobbing statements about the occurrence of violence inside Greece’s faculties, asking the State to wipe away any occupied space in universities but also to get rid of Indymedia Athens. These statements were made under the pretext of two incidents at the National Technical University of Athens (Metsovio) and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Aristotelio), incidents which are not connected with each other and have obviously no relation whatsoever with the administration crew of Athens IMC.
These statements have been vulgarly reproduced by the television media of society’s mass deception, which used spectacular titles like ‘terrorism in faculties’ and distorted the real facts. Every evening, the same mainstream media are selling fear to society, licking the State’s boots and supporting the bosses, thus assisting their plans dearly.
The president of the POSDEP represents a bunch of conservative university professors who use nice-sounding words like ‘democracy’ and then ridicule themselves as they condemn violence wherever its comes from, while at the same time they are demanding the violent eviction of self-managed spaces, the violent silencing of any voice like Indymedia Athens that criticizes the establishment they loyally serve, the violent suppression of any kind of protest mobilization, either of workers or students, and the violent elimination of the probability of any struggle. Their want to make their dream for universities-industries of obedient citizens come true with the new education bill. But the POSDEP failed to comment on the labour rights of the contract workers in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and their recent struggle.
In addition the POSDEP statements, which were directed against Indymedia Athens exclusively, reveal a striking similarity to the respective queries of the Golden Dawn party’s neo-Nazis in the Greek parliament. The POSDEP delegates can camouflage themselves wearing the mask of a peace-loving democraticness but their words are identical in their essence: the essence of totalitarianism and squelching of any free expression.
We are not stunned by the umpteenth targeting of Indymedia Athens and self-managed occupied spaces. This is precisely a period in which attacks of Power unfold against each and every fighting and resisting part. And the courtiers of Power now float to the top and make froth.
Indymedia Athens is part of those who fight and resist the frontal attack of State/Capital. Therefore, Indymedia Athens gives a voice to those who have no voice and combat the ugliness of capitalism.
Solidarity with self-managed occupied spaces inside and outside the academic faculties. Solidarity with the just struggle of workers in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and elsewhere.
Indymedia Athens will only be shut down when the end of the world is nigh.

Op donderdag 20 december 2012 heeft Nikos Stavrakakis, president van de POSDEP (de zogenaamde Pan-Hellinistische Federatie van Universitaire Professoren/Onderzoekers Vereniging), een jankerig statement naar buiten gebracht over het geweld dat recent in Griekse faculteiten heeft plaatsgevonden. Hierin vragend aan de staat om de universiteiten schoon te vegen van elke bezette ruimte en om Indymedia Athene te verwijderen. Deze statements werden gemaakt onder het mom van twee incidenten op de Natioanle Technische Universiteit van Athene (Metsovia) en de Aristoteles Universiteit van Thessaloniki (Aristotelio). Incidenten die niet met elkaar verbonden waren en duidelijk geen relatie in wat voor een vorm dan ook hadden met het administratieve van Indymedia Athene.
Deze statements zijn vervolgens vulgair gereproduceerd door de media op bijvoorbeeld televisie als massa-misleiding, welke spectaculaire titels gebruiten als ‘terrorisme in de faculteiten’ en de werkelijke feiten verdraaiden. Elke avond verkoopt dezelfde mainstream-media angst aan de samenleving, likken ze de laarzen van de Staat en steunen ze de bazen en hun plannen.
De president van de POSDEP representeerd een groep conservatieve universiteitsprofessoren welke mooi klinkende woorden gebruiken als ‘democratie’ en maken zichzelf vervolgens belachelijk door geweld te veroordelen, waar deze ook vandaan komt. Dit terwijl ze op het zelfde moment de geweldadige onruiming van zelfgeorganiseerde ruimten eisen, het gewelddadig de mond snoeren van elke kritische stem tegen het establishement dat zij steuenen, zoals de stem van Indymedia Athene, ze hiermee op tot de geweldadige onderdrukking van elke vorm van protest en mobilisatie, van werkers of studenten, eb de gewelddadige eliminatie van de mogelijkheid van enige vorm van strijd. Ze willen hun droom van universitaire industriën met gehoorzame burgers tot werkelijkheid maken met de invoering met hun nieuwe voorstel. Maar de POSDEP vergeet hierbij de spreken over de arbeidsrechten van de werknemers in dienst van de Aristeles Universiteit van Thessaloniki en hun recente arbeidsconflict.
Daarbij tonen de POSDEP statements direct en exclusief gericht tegen Indymedia Athene een schokkende overeenkomst met vergelijkbare gestelde vragen door de Gouden Dagenraad, de neo-Nazis in het Griekse parlement. De POSDEP delegatie kunnen zichzelf camofleren met een masker van vredelievende democraten maar hun woorden zijn in essentie geijk: de essentie van totalitarisme en het verdrukken van elke vrije expressie.
We zijn niet verbaasd over de ongebreidelde aanval op Indymedia Athene en zelfgeorganiseerde bezette ruimtes. Dit is precies de periode waarin de aanvallen door de macht, tegen iedereen die zich tegen hen verzet en vecht, zich ontrold. De hovelingen van de macht komen nu bovendrijven en roeren zich.
Indymedia Athene is onderdeel van zij die vechten en zich verzetten tegen de frontale aanvallen van Staat en Kapitaal. Hierom geeft een stem aan zij die geen stem hebben en vecht het tegen de lelijkheid van het kapitalisme.
Solidariteit met de zelfgeorganiseerde bezette ruimten binnen en buiten de academische faculteiten. Solidaritiet met de strijd van de werkers in de Aristoteles Universiteit van Thessaloniki en elders.
Indymedia Athe zal alleen gesloten worden als het einde van de wereld nabij is.
