Dit is een stuk over de gebeurtenissen in Amsterdam die de monden en harten al maanden bezig houd.
Het is niet bedoeld om mensen te verder uit elkaar te drijven, noch kant te kiezen of sensatie te maken. Het is afkomstig van Amsterdammers die de hele zaak op een brug afstand hebben bekeken en in deze maanden met de oren hebben zitten klapperen. Met dit soort heftige toestanden is het belangrijk dat we het vermogen tot (zelf)reflectie niet verliezen, we hopen daaraan bij te dragen met dit stuk. Er is al teveel geschreeuwd zonder constructiviteit, zonder na te denken, en wellicht heeft dit bijgedragen aan het rechercheonderzoek…
De verschrikkelijke gebeurtenis op die septemberavond, heeft akelige gevolgen, uiteraard voor Yoghurt, maar ook voor de mensen die nu vast zitten, en voor de structuren binnen onze stad. Laten we er vooral voor zorgen dat het niet erger meer wordt, dat dit proces stopt.
Met de gedachte aan een vrij leven, zonder bazen en politici, gevangenissen en staatsterreur, lijkt het meer dan logisch, welke probleemsituaties dan ook, zelf en samen op te lossen. De bargroep heeft hierin fouten en onverstandige keuzes gemaakt. Maar de bargroep is niet de enige verantwoordelijke, elke bezoeker, gebruiker en vrijwilliger heeft ook een verantwoordelijkheid. We doelen hiermee eigenlijk op de mensen die (al jaren) gebruik maken van de Vrankrijk, maar nu zonder actie te ondernemen de kroeg en betrokkenen, zowel degene die de bewuste avond aanwezig waren als niet, de rug hebben toegekeerd. Er werd aan de hoek van de bar en in huiskamers gekankerd in plaats van zinnige discussies te voeren of de vrijwilligersvergaderingen te bezoeken. En nog erger: er werd gal gespuid op publieke forums en in de media. Een boycot op de Vrankrijk ruimte zelf, had aanleiding kunnen zijn de gebeurtenissen elders te bespreken. Hiertoe heeft uiteindelijk alleen de bargroep initiatief genomen, zij het te laat. Ook het feit dat mensen zichzelf op afstand (willen) zien van alle rumoer heeft ontwikkelingen gedwarsboomd, waarbij je best wat zelfkritiek van onze zijde mag proeven.
Concrete oplossingen en pogingen daartoe leken heel lang ver weg. Pas toen de vergunningen werden ingetrokken, een initiatief van de staat, werd er echt actie ondernomen, wat de kroeg betreft tenminste. Er blijkt grote incapabelheid serieuze conflicten op te lossen, zowel intern als extern. Wellicht omdat we niet vaak dit soort situaties voor onze kiezen hebben gehad, wellicht om een gebrek aan serieuze intentie en interesse.
De desperate schreeuw voor ‘hardere consequenties’ en het ‘zich aan moeten geven’ boezemt ons grote angst in- hebben die mensen nu wat ze willen? Of ging het erover mensen uit te sluiten, te dwingen verantwoordelijkheden te nemen? Zeker is dat er duizendhonderd verschillende standpunten in zijn genomen. We griezelen ervan om van mensen die wij dachten te kennen en te vertrouwen dit soort ‘Wilders taal’ te horen; de roep voor vergelding en gerechtigheid, of ze zich dat nu voorstelden binnen het bestaande rechtssysteem of door middel van eigen strafmaatregelen. De lust om te straffen is behalve walgelijk, ook gevaarlijk en inconsequent als we strijden voor vrijheid. We weten dat niet iedereen dezelfde ideeën en meningen heeft, maar verwerping van het strafsysteem scheen ons universeel of zou dat moeten zijn. Alternatieve straffen passen hier niet in. Het gaat erom zelf in staat te zijn dingen op te lossen, we pleiten er dan ook niet voor dat er geen consequenties aan handelingen en gebeurtenissen verbonden zouden moeten zijn.
Zeker is dat zowel het leven binnen de wielen van een rolstoel als binnen de muren van de bajes zwaar klote is. Voor ons lijkt het erop dat de arrestaties in deze zaak in de hand zijn gewerkt, op verschillende wijzen, bewust en onbewust. Veel mensen hebben zonder het te willen allerlei namen en verschillende verhalen toegeworpen gekregen, gewoon aan de eettafel, in de kroeg of op een actie. Niet met beleid of verstand- gewoon als sensatie, iets waar mensen zich even lekker over konden opwinden. En ook hier geld dat we niet vinden dat je je over geweld niet mag opwinden, het gaat om de manier waarop. En in dit geval was discretie juist erg belangrijk. Het schreeuwen van namen, van mensen die er wel of niet bij waren, als daders, schuldigen of criminelen, zoals wij allen zijn(of allemaal niet), is verwerpelijk. Sterker nog, het is erg waardevol voor de smeris, het is niet zo dat zij een of ander gedegen onderzoek plegen- reken er maar op dat wij allemaal de belangrijkste informanten zijn.
En het gaat niet om de personen, het gaat om de gebeurtenissen. Het is toch ook niet belangrijk of het Yoghurt was of een ‘onbekende’? Wij willen niet weten wie, wij willen weten wat en hoe. Sowieso het benadrukken van het ‘recht’ om te weten wie de verantwoordelijken zouden zijn, en voor anderen bijna de plicht om het aan te horen, riekt naar het verlangen mensen aan de schandpaal te nagelen.
We moeten te allen tijde voorkomen dat mensen in wat voor gevangenis dan ook (rolstoel of bajes) terechtkomen. Het is enorm belangrijk om na te denken en te discussiëren over eigen en elkaars veiligheid. Laat niemand het meer in zijn of haar hoofd halen namen en scenario’s online te publiceren en roddel en achterklap over ‘stalen pijpen’ de wijde wereld in te helpen. Laten we ons verstand bewaren, en onze woede richten tegen het kapitalistische monster en zijn vriend de Staat, in plaats van hen te helpen.
Niet alleen in dit geval is er extreem onvoorzichtig omgegaan met (des)informatie. De veiligheidscultuur is zo minimaal, dat wij ons welhaast onder een glazen vloer bevinden. We zijn marginaal, en daardoor sowieso ontzettend makkelijk om in de gaten te houden. En om even clichématig te spreken, paranoia is niet nodig- voorzichtigheid wel. Houd in gedachten of je informatie nodig hebt, voor bewustzijn of praktische redenen, of dat je het gewoon plezierig vind op de hoogte te zijn.
Laat het leren en ontwikkelen plaatsvinden. En vergeet de strijd niet tegen de staat en haar crisisbedrijven, haar commercie en repressie, tegen de bezitters en controleurs!
Alle arrestanten onmiddellijk vrij!!!

This is a piece about the things that happened in Amsterdam that kept our mouths and hearts busy for the past months.
It’s not meant to separate the people more, nor to choose sides or to be part of the spectacle. It comes from inhabitants of Amsterdam that observed the whole affair from a bridge distance, and got unpleasantly surprised by the things we heard and saw. With this kind of heavy situations it is very important that we keep the ability to (self) reflect, which is the intention of this article. There was already too much shouting around without thought or constructive criticism, this might have helped the police investigation.
The horrible event on that September night has a lot of miserable results, of course for Yoghurt, but also for the people who are imprisoned now, and for the structures of our city. Let’s take care of stopping this process, and stop it from getting worse.
With the thought of a free life, without bosses and politicians, prisons and state terror, it seems more than logic to solve any kind of problem situation ourselves and together. The bargroup made mistakes and unwise decisions. But the bargroup is not the only one responsible, every visitor, user and volunteer has a certain responsibility. By saying this we mean the people that used the Vrankrijk (for years), who turned their backs on the bar and all the people involved, whether they where there that night or not. Criticizing without taking action.
There was a lot of bitching at the corner of the bar and in living rooms instead of having sensible discussions or visiting one of the volunteers meetings. And even worse, there was rubbish published on internet forums and in the media. A boycott on the Vrankrijk space itself could have been a reason to talk about things elsewhere. In the end it was just the bargroup who took initiative to meet elsewhere, too late though. Also the desire of people to keep distanced from the fuss made developments difficult, some self critiques are to be seen here.
Concrete solutions and attempts towards it seemed far away for a long time. Only when the permits were taken, an initiative from the state, action was taken, concerning the bar at least. It is evident that there is a great incapability to solve serious conflicts, both internally as externally. Possibly because we did not have to deal with situations like this before, maybe because of a lack of serious intentions or interest.
The desperate cry for ‘harder consequences’ and ‘turning their selves in’ frightens us- do these people have what they want now? Or was it about excluding people and forcing them to take responsibility? It is certain that there are hundreds of different opinions taken concerning this matter. It horrifies us that people we thought we knew and trusted use this kind of ´Wilders language´; the call for retribution and justice, whether they imagined this within the current penal system or in their own way of punishing. The lust to punish is besides disgusting, dangerous and inconsequent when we fight for freedom. We know that not everyone shares the same ideas and opinions, but rejection of the law system seemed or should be universal. Alternative ways of punishing don’t fit into this. It is about us being capable of solving problems ourselves. We don’t plea that there should never be any consequences bounded to proceedings or events.
Definite is that the life between the wheels of a wheelchair and between the walls of a prison sucks big time. For us it seems that the arrests made in this case were encouraged by the acts of people, in different ways; conscious or not. A lot of people heard different names and stories without wanting to know, just on the dining table, in the bar or on an action. Not tactfully or with common sense, just as a thrill, something to excite yourself with for a bit. We don’t mean to say that you can not criticize violence, it is about the way you do it. In this case discretion is very important. The screaming of names of people who where there or not even, as the guilty ones and criminals (like we all are, or not) is reprehensible. Even more important is that it is very useful for the police, its not like they are making a solid investigation- you can count on all of us being the most important informants.
It’s not about the persons, it is about the events. Wasn’t it important anyways, whether it happened to Yoghurt or an ‘unknown’ person? We don’t want to know who, we want to know how and what. When people are underlining the ‘right’ to know who would be the ones responsible and almost the duty to hear it, it smells like the desire to publicly disgrace people.
We have to prevent at all times that people end up in any kind of prison (wheelchair or the nick). It is important to think and discuss your own and others safety. Let no one even think no more of publishing lists of names and scenarios online again or sending gossips about ‘steel pipes’ into the wide world. Let’s keep our common sense and aim our anger at the capitalist monster and its friend the state, instead of helping them.
Not only in this case people dealt extremely imprudent with (dis)information. The safety culture is so minimal, that we are almost seen like in a fishbowl. We are marginal and because of that very easy to keep an eye on. And to come up with a cliché: paranoia is not necessary, carefulness is. Keep in mind whether you need information, for consciousness or practical reasons, or you just like to be up to date.
Let the learning and developing happen, and don’t forget the struggle against the state and its crises companies, its commerce and its repression, the possessors and controllers!
Release all the arrested immediately!!!!
