Future projects of Vattenfall, the Swedish energy giant, tell another story. With the support of the gover-nments of Brandenburg and Saxony, Vattenfall is plan-ning to open three new coal pits to increase the asset value for the planned sale of its lignite division. 2016 is a crucial year that will determine the future of coal in Lusatia. Vattenfall, one of Germany‘s energy corporations, wants to sell coal mines and coal fired power plants for as much money as possible instead of shutting them down.
