Op donderdagavond 23 november wordt in de Linkse Kerk in Vrijplaats Koppenhinksteeg in Leiden de documentaire "Protocols of Zion" vertoond. Deze nieuwe documentaire van Marc Levin behandelt één van de hardnekkigste complottheorieën die zijn ontstaan na de aanslagen van 11 september 2001, namelijk dat 'de joden' op de hoogte waren van de terreuraanslagen en er wellicht zelf achter zaten.

Protocols of Zion

Mark Levin traceert in "Protocols of Zion" de oorsprong van deze complottheorie, een zoektocht die uitmondt in een onderzoek naar de verspreiding van het 19de eeuwse geschrift "de protocollen van de Wijzen van Zion". In dit antisemitische pamflet worden joden afgeschilderd als intens achterbakse schurken met een geheime agenda: ze zouden de wereldheerschappij in handen willen krijgen en daarna de wereldbevolking in een poel des verderfs storten. Het pamflet zou door joodse leiders zijn geschreven, maar werd al snel ontmaskerd als een vervalsing. Toch wordt het pamflet tegenwoordig nog steeds verspreid, en geeft het voeding aan nieuwe antisemitische theorieën, zoals rond de aanslagen van 11 september 2001.

Levin interviewt voor zijn documentaire zwarte, Joodse, Arabische en witte Amerikanen over hun houding ten opzichte van joden, anti-semitisme en Israël. De uitspraken die hij verzamelt zijn vaak schokkend en verbijsterend, maar soms ook humoristisch.

De muziek bij de film werd gemaakt door de Amerikaanse avantgarde-componist John Zorn.

De documentaire start om 21:00 en de toegang is gratis.
