On Saturday 11 November all four parts of Adam Curtis' influential documentary THE CENTURY OF THE SELF can be seen at Filmhuis Cavia, Amsterdam.
British filmmaker Adam Curtis is one of the most admired thinkers of our time. With unique access to the BBC-archive he creates profound polemics argued with psychoanalysis, philosophy and media theory, that dissect the essence of the political and economic problems of our time.
In THE CENTURY OF THE SELF, the influential documentary in four parts, Curtis examines the recent evolution to a fundamentally selfish society where individual needs are placed above those of the group. He find the origin of our neoliberal world where consumerism and commodification are central, in the application of Freud’s theories on the use of marketing and in the workings of the financial market.
