20 jaar politiestaat komt - voorlopig? - ten einde, feestende menigtes in de straten van Tunesische steden nu president Ben Ali het land uitgevlucht is.
Tunesië: President Ben Ali is het land uitgevlucht toen vandaag de opstand in Tunis aan bleef houden, ondanks staat van beleg en hard optreden politie. Hoe het verder gaat is onduidelijk. Toeristen worden geevacueerd (hoewel er geen enkel teken is dat ze gevaar lopen). Premier heeft interim-regering ingesteld en beloofd 'de grondwet te respecteren'. In naburige landen met door de EU gesteunde autoritaire regimes gieren de zenuwen nu ook door de keel (en wensen veel mensen de Tunesiers 'mabrouk' oftewel duizend keer gelukwensen).

Tsja, en nu? Lees dat Mohamed Ghannouchi ook niet populair is als voormalige 100% ja-knikker en de demonstranten zich bezinnen of ze zullen doorgaan.
Waar blijven de Open Democracy activisten (zonder de Soros component) om het foute systeem te helpen hervormen? Er is teveel macht voor een president en regering, terwijl je dat bij het parlement zou moeten stoppen. Verder is het moslim geloof er overwegend gematigd en liberaal, maar is nog altijd de staats godsdienst en in strijd met het individuele recht op vrijheid van geloof. Welke actie/hulp is mogelijk? Indien zo, kan dit niet zonder Franstalige activisten uit Canada en Frankrijk + degenen die Arabisch spreken.
