Meeting to organize Dam Sleeping Action.
We would like to invite every one who would like to help with organizing Dam Sleeping Action to squat Positivenest ( Uiterwaardenstraat 289 ) at 8 PM in this thursday
Suggestion for the meeting could be.
1.Picking Up the date ( STRONG suggestion 25 september, saturday before the ban would get in to life and as kick off for other sleeping actions around the country )
2.Planing the poster ( think about the ideas )
3.Planing the call out ( think about the ideas )
4.Discussing how to spread, mobilise, inspire that the action would have huge impact
5.Anything else ???
As inspiration to get involved we are adding earlier invitation
There are some things to do like poster, call out, choosing and synchronise date, video call out, getting other people/groups involving, inspiring, motivating etc. Lets meet to talk about and start to organize it! I would suggest as soon as possible, maybe even in this week or the next before the holidays would start and everyone would be away. Take Your friends with You who may be interested to help !

The movie is old, the copy is not so good but still this is one of the best movies of Spirit Of Squatters Collective. Finally we managed to put it on the net. The first minute is very bad,but after goes better.Hopefully we will find better copy in the future...

Nationwide call to action!
Join the demonstrative Dam-sleeping-action on July 7th, from 21.00 until ...?
Squatting outlawed? Renting impossible? Show Dekker & Co. the consequences of their policies and spend the night in the streets!
Because of housing Minister Dekker's and the rest of the government's anti-social plans, many people in the Netherlands are in danger of becoming homeless. On Friday, July 7th we want to show Dekker and Dutch society the expected outcome of these policies.
We are calling on everyone who is threatened, directly or indirectly, by the government's impending ban on squatting and its anti-social attacks on rent control, to come and spend the night together in Dam Square in Amsterdam.
As well as displaying the many cardboard boxes, sleeping bags and tents which will appear in the streets after these government plans have been imposed, we also want to show society what positive things will be lost because of this attack on our social structures. That's why we are also calling on everyone to use this night to show what else goes on besides sleeping in all of those flats, attic rooms, halls, storage spaces and factory buildings.
Are you an artist? Do you work in a Volkskeuken (cost price restaurant)? Are you in a band? Do you run a free radio station? Do you dance, or do acrobatics? Do you run a cinema? Write books? Bring it along to Dam Square and show everyone what you're up to! Apart from a few things like a press group, a legal team and street medics, we will not plan the action's programme. All too often we passively perform a demonstration-ritual through the city, after which everyone goes home quietly. This time it is our collective responsibility to use our own inventiveness, our creativity and our solidarity to make this night a success.

We have decided not to apply for a city council permit for this demonstrative action. This is an action fuelled by the spontaneity and creativity of its participants, and we don't feel like allowing ourselves to be limited by the rules and regulations of those bureaucrats at City Hall. Since Dam Square was "cleansed" by marines in 1970 it has been illegal to sleep in the square, so please come with lots of people in order to make it as difficult as possible for the council to stop this action.
See you in Dam Square, bring all of your friends, housemates, neighbours, grandparents etc. etc. etc.!!!!

Persbericht: Damslapen tegen Dekker en Có!
Demonstratieve Dam-slaap actie a.s. vrijdag 7 Juli vanaf 21.00, Amsterdam.
Nederland is terug bij af: "happening" tegen o.a. het dreigende kraakverbod en de huurliberalisatie plannen.
Hoewel het kabinet Balkenende-II beter laat dan nooit over hun eigen voeten is gestruikeld, hangen de asociale wetsvoorstellen van dit afbraakkabinet nog altijd dreigend boven ons hoofd. Een VVD/CDA minderheidskabinet met gedoogsteun van de LPF kan immers nog altijd snel hun zin doordrukken en ook van een eventueel kabinet Bos verwachten wij weinig goeds.
Daarom wordt er opgeroepen om a.s. vrijdag 7 juli massaal de nacht door te brengen op de Dam in Amsterdam.
Hiermee willen wij uitdrukkelijk een historische parallel trekken, het damslapen gebeurde immers in de tijd van het Nieuwmarkt verzet, de enorme leegstand en woningnood, de provo's en de staatsrepressie, en het opkomende massale kraken.
Door het laten zien van een zee aan slaapzakken, tentjes en kartonnen dozen willen we de Nederlandse maatschappij confronteren met de te verwachten gevolgen van dit soort aanvallen op de sociale huisvesting. Als mensen dakloos worden verdwijnen ze immers niet, ze worden eerder zichtbaarder.
Ook willen we van de gelegenheid gebruiken maken om te tonen wat voor een rijke (sub-)cultuur er verloren dreigt te gaan voor de stad en het land als het niet meer mogelijk is om goedkoop in je huisvesting te voorzien, als iedereen daarom gedwongen wordt zich van 9 tot 5 kapot te werken in McWorld. Een bont gezelschap van o.a. muzikanten, acrobaten, radio-piraten, internet freaks, activisten, volkskeukens, boerderijkrakers en weggeefwinkels zal gedurende deze nacht laten zien wat zij zoal uitspoken in de talloze gekraakte of betaalbare etages, zolderkamers, fabriekshallen en concertzalen.
Dit zal geen demonstratie zijn zoals ze gebruikelijk worden gehouden op de Dam. Er is geen programma, er zullen geen toespraken van bobo's zijn, er zijn geen partij-sjaaltjes of -ballonnetjes. Er is alleen een oproep van ons comité om gebruik te maken van het recht op vrijheid van demonstratie en gezamenlijk in een zo spontaan en creatief mogelijke sfeer Nederland onze stem te laten horen.
En natuurlijk zullen we temidden van dit demonstratieve feestgedruis een glas heffen op het hopelijk spoedig definitieve afscheid van Dekker, Verdonk, Donner, Balkenende en de rest van de roversbende.
