Freedom of Press in Moldova After the Moldovan parliamentary elections of April 5, 2009, the opposition rejected the results, accusing the authorities of falsification in the course of counting the votes. Big protest demonstrations were being held in the centre of capital Chisinau. The demonstration spun out of control and escalated into a riot on April 7th. Journalists who tried to cover the following arrest of several protester, were beaten by the police. The editorial staff of the Dutch anthropology magazine CUL went to Chisinau, the capital of Moldova in June 2009 to investigate the status of press freedom in the country after the elections held on april 7th. They talked to several media about what it is like to be a journalist in a country like Moldova.
