Time: Food will be served at 7pm and the info evening will start at 8pm In the wake of the G20 Summit (April 2, 2009) an attempt for restructure the financial systems to fast-track old tools and fuel new public money into the old system is about to take place in the so-called “London Summit”. The group is task to deal with the crisis, reforming different intuitions such as the IMF and World Bank and to find solutions within the market and further push the ongoing trade policies. Since years there have been huge street protests by social movements opposing the WTO. Pascal Lamy the Director of the WTO has now declared that he will try to revive a WTO Agreement during the G20 summit in London. He states that this would be of major importance for the poor people in developing countries who suffer from the effects of the financial crisis. But is this really the case or would this instead have to be seen as Orwellian "doublespeak"? "Developing countries are being hit hard by the global financial and economic crisis. For now it seems that governments of richer nations have nothing to offer to these poverty stricken countries other than more debt. While at the same time money is flowing from low income countries to rich countries, because the former are paying debt service instead of investing in their peoples' health, education and future." There are several marches organized in London from March 28th to April 1st. We will have presentations of the main topics of G20, restructuring of the system, debt and trade implications. Come and join us on the newly squatted Amsterdam Social Center by the IJ and share a night of information and discussion. E-Mail: mafaldas.schaduw@gmail.com |
