Today we have re-squatted two houses on Van Boetzelaerstraat.

Two appartments in these houses got squatted last year and evicted on the basis of article 429 on the 30th of October - for emptiness. The appartments belong to "Block AB24", owned by Ymere, and will be demolished in the future. When exactly, nobody seems to know, not even Ymere, as the project has been postponed time and time again.
The renters of the block were forced to move out already quite some time ago, only to be replaced by antisquatters. Now even the antisquatters have moved out and if Ymere will have their way the whole block will remain empty until the demolition will start.
And that's where we step in! In our eyes it is not a crime to squat a house, no matter how long or short time it has been empty, especially during these times of housing shortage. People need houses to live in. 429 is just a number.

Herkraak van de van Boetzelaerstraat 2 en 20 Blok AB24
Beste buren,
Op 30 oktober 2007 zijn twee gekraakte appartementen in het blok AB24 aan de van Boetzelaerstraat 2 en 20 ontruimd. De beslissing tot ontruiming was gebaseerd op Artikel 429, dit houd in dat de appartementen korter dan een jaar zouden hebben leeg gestaan voordat deze gekraakt werden, en dat de kraak van deze woningen hierdoor illegaal was.
De redenen waarom we deze appartementen toendestijds gekraakt hebben zijn de zelfde redenen waarom we deze appartementen nu opnieuw gekraakt hebben.
De eigenaar van deze appartementen, Ymere, wacht met de start van een massaal woningbouwproject betreffende Blok AB24,
Dit project bestaat uit sloop van een groot gedeelte van het blok, deels renovatie.
De voormalige huurders, die zich een lange tijd verzet hebben tegen sloop van de woningen, zijn al geruime tijd geleden onder dwang vertrokken. Hierna stonden de woningen leeg of werden bezet door antikraak.
Toen we deze woningen kraakten was het al duidelijk dat Ymere het gehele blok langdurig zou laten leegstaan voordat met de start van het massale woningbouwproject begonnen zou worden.
Noch Ymere, Stadsdeel Westerpark, of de politie wilden dit niet onder ogen zien, zijn niet geïgeïnteresseerd wat wij hier door middel van kraken van de woningen aan de kaak wilden stellen.
De woningen die in oktober 2007 ontruimd zijn, staan sinds de ontruiming leeg.
Zelfs nu het zich laat aanzien dat Ymere niet op korte termijn met de bouwplannen van start gaat, zijn zelfs de antikraak uit het blok vertrokken.
Tot de aanvang van sloop van het blok hadden mensen in deze woningen kunnen wonen!
In de plaats mensen in deze woningen te laten wonen kiest Ymere ervoor het gehele blok af te sluiten doormiddel van stalen deuren, en het met staalplaten afdekken van ramen.
In deze tijden van grote woningnood is leegstand volslagen waanzin.
Stadsdeel Westerpark verleende Ymere alle medewerking en lijkt zich daarmee niet aan de indruk te kunnen onttrekken zich kommeren om bouwplannen van een woningbouw vereniging als om haar inwoners.
In een geval als deze is het kraken van huizen, hoe lang of kort ze ook mogen hebben leeg gestaan in onze beleving geen misdrijf !
Mensen uit hun woningen verdrijven is dat in onze ogen wel!
En waneer gaat Ymere van start met de sloop?
Ymere is daar zelf ook niet zeker over, keer op keer werd het project uitgesteld, de huurder van het blok in constante onzekerheid achter latende.
In 2004 kondigde Ymere aan dat in 2006 met de start zou beginnen, in 2006 kondigde Ymere aan dat in 2008 met de start begonnen zou worden.
Duidelijk is dat ook die datum niet gehaald wordt.
Wat geeft Ymere het idee, ongeacht met welk plan of planning ze nu aankomen, dat wij ze dit keer zullen geloven?
We zijn terug gekomen om doormiddel van het herkraken van de woningen aan de van Boetzelaerstraat 2 en 20, aan Ymere duidelijk te maken dat wij het oneens zijn de plannen van Ymere tot het verder veryuppen van de buurt, en het onttrekken van meer en meer sociale huurwoningen ten gunste van koopwoningen.
Eveneens willen wij doormiddel van de herkraak van de woningen aan de van Boetzelaerstraat 2 en 20 aan de lokale politici duidelijk maken het niet eens te zijn met hun handelswijze, zij hebben de schijn tegen zich meer geïnteresseerd te zijn in het ondersteunen van een woningbouw vereniging in hun realisatie van een massaal woningbouw project, in plaats van de inwoners van stadsdeel Westerpark.
Ook willen we protesteren tegen het op handen zijnde kraak verbod.
Huizen staan leeg, en met verwachte verdere economische teruggang zal dit zeker niet veranderen.
Kraken is niet een probleem, maar een oplossing voor een probleem, te weten woningnood!
Iedereen ongeacht rijk of arm heeft het op een dak boven zijn hoofd.
En als de politiek niet de bereidheid hebben een oplossing voor het woningnood vraagstuk aan te dragen, doen we het zelf!

It's been an exciting day in the West...
Around midday the neighbourhood cop came by the squatted houses with a colleague and a few guys representing Ymere. They didn't exactly like the fact that the houses had gotten squatted again, but admitted that Van Boetzelaerstraat 2 II and 20 I had been empty for over a year. They then wanted to go in and check that nobody was using the other floors, and got upset when realizing that the squatters had barricaded the door to the staircase and refused to open it.
With the help of a young worker (who damn nearly broke his leg trying to kick open the door that was closed with a bouwstempel) the cops and the Ymere posse finally got in through the roof, having given up with the door altogether. They checked the second and the third floor and saw that they were not in use by the squatters. Then the workers demolished the toilets and the kitchens and removed all the windows, piling them inside and then smashing them for the fun of it. The squatters stayed in the 1st floor all this time.
After a few hours both the cops and the Ymere guys left, promising to come back the next day. So we expect them to come and try to huff & puff their way inside house number 2 tomorrow. But we are still in control of the houses and we are not leaving. No eviction for emptiness!

Removing the windows
If you can't remove it, break it
It's a tough job, demolishing houses were people could actually still live in...
You mess with Ymere, and you're life will never be boring again...
So, as expected, the evil forces came back today, this time with more manpower. Several cops and Ymere workers kept and eye on things while their colleagues broke into Van Boetzelaerstraat 2, and like yesterday, entered the 429 floors. There they took out all the windows and demolished the kitchens and bathrooms. They also tried to enter the squatted floor, but changed their minds and in the end decided to remove the front door of the house instead.
After destroying everything there was in number 2, the workers bizarrely proceeded to demolish all the apartments in the block. Also water and electricity were cut.
There was also one arrest. When the workers had already moved on to the other houses, one of the squatters wanted to enter the still squatted floor in house number 2. The neighbourhood refused to let him in to the building, and then suddenly ran after him and arrested him. The cops were also seen following another person and then trying to catch him, running around the neighbourhood after him, but failed to catch him, the lazy pigs that they are.
During the last days Ymere has really shown what they are all about. One of the guys representing Ymere told us that they have paid a lot of money to get the building empty, and that they can't now risk suddenly having the whole block full of people like us. So instead they pay a lot more money trying to keep these apartments from getting squatted, even though they are still not really sure when the demolition is going to start. Naturally they were whining that they wanted to start with the preparations this week. (Yeah, right...) So apparently we messed up their plans. We'd like to say that we are really sorry, but we're not. Not one bit.
We are not leaving Van Boetzelaerstraat to Ymere. These bastards just want to make more dough and speed up the process of gentrification in the neighbourhood and the whole city. They can go screw themselves! Staatsliedenbuurt is ours, KRAKEN GAAT DOOR!

The person that was arrested yesterday got released this afternoon, with a dagvaarding that says he has stolen a ladder. Actually the ladder was just misplaced, and the workers only found it after the person had already been arrested. We also heard that the cops got a permit to do a house search - yeah, the ladder was so huge there was no way to put it into the house even if somebody wanted to, but sure it's hidden under somebodys bed...
Otherwise everything's quiet on the western front and we've had no further trouble with the cops or Ymere.
