25 FEBRUARI: Dialogue on the Effective Role of Mass Media Jasper Hootsmans - 19.02.2008 13:25
With a focus on Mass Media in the context of globalisation and democracy, we are organising this dialogue aiming to take a critical look, draw from different perspectives and analyse the role of media in society. What filters determine what is 'news'; in other words, what gets printed in newspapers or broadcasted by radio and television; what explains how dissent from the mainstream is given little, or zero, coverage? On behalf of the Activists for Alternative Awareness (A3), a group of the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), we invite you to be part of a 'Dialogue on the Effective Role of Mass Media'. The dialogue is scheduled to take place on Monday, 25 Feb. 2008 from 16:00-18:00 at the ISS. 16:00 - Exhibition of a critical video made by students 16:15 - Dialogue on the role of Mass Media 17:45 - Drinks and Snacks The activity involves representants from the media, NGOs and activists, as well as academics and students, and aims to build a dynamic sphere, where an interactive dialogue on the role of mass media can take place. The setting will not be one of giving presentations, but more of a constructive dialogue and reflexion from different perspectives. We hope you will be able to participate and share your views and concerns.
