Week of Mobilization Against the New U.S. Base at Dal Molin

VICENZA 8-16 SEPT: WEEK OF MOBILIZATION
As many of you know, the people of Vicenza have been struggling against a new U.S. military base in their city, already home to the base at Camp Ederle as well as several other U.S. military installations, for more than a year now.
The U.S. Congress has authorized the funds and the Italian government, though too embarrassed to make the announcement themselves, gave its official approval in June. But this has done little to discourage the local residents, who are as determined as ever to block construction of the new base. If fact, the local movement in Vicenza, following two successful national demonstrations, is organizing a National Week of Mobilization, an entire week of camping, actions, debates, rallies, concerts and initiatives, from Sept 8-16. They are calling on people from all over Italy to participate and to stand firm with the people of Vicenza in their refusal to play a supporting role in the U.S. wars of aggression. This is a critical moment, with construction set to start in the coming months. And as U.S. citizens, our participation will be particularly important. We urge as many of you as possible to participate for as many days as you can. A camping area will be set up near the site of the new base, including showers, meals, tents for debates and a central stage. Several actions will also be planned during the week. A small daily contribution will be asked to help cover costs. We need to inform the organizers of the number of people from our group who intend to participate.
