stealing bicycles for the G8 mark - 30.05.2007 19:53
German police checks people traveling to set up camps for stolen bicycles. g8 versenken On tuesday, may 29th some 40 people travelled with the wendland caravan to Wichmannsdorf, where they are going to build up the third camp, also known as the satelite camp, some 5 km from reddelich. Some 20 km before wichmannsdorf they were stopped by the police. The police wanted to search the lorries and vans. The people demanded that they should atleast mention a reason for that. After a while the cops came up with the idea to check if there might be stolen bicycles in the cars. First of all the pasports of all people where taken, then all vehicles where surrounded and one car after the other was searched. the bicyles taken out, their numbers written down. On about ten bycyles they could not find the number and these where confiscated to check if they are maybe stolen. from two bicycles the numbers where registrated as being stolen at some time, by somebody so they where also confiscated. the thing is that the caravan had a large number of bicycles with them since there was a call for bicycle donations in order to be mobile during the action days. the whole operation took 5 hours, over 100 cops where involved. The reasons for this: a. to delay setting up the infrastructure for the camps b. to intimidate activists c. to train juvinal cops to identificate bikes. (for the right answer, there is a job for you in green) At around 21.30 the caravan travelled on and at eleven in the evening they arrived at the camp where they got a nice dinner! |
