'In the Shadow of the Palms' tells us the most important side of Iraq War. A must-see documentary! A war always leaves a big eternal scar in everybody's heart. And Iraq War was not an exception. It wounded the Iraqis more than anything, not because of losing their leader, not because of losing all the belongings that they had. They are wounded because of no freedom in their own land. The freedom is lost in the shameful name of world justice. 'In the Shadow of the Palms' shows the wounded people on a very intimate level in a way that nobody would have done. By showing everyday life of the real people that we really should care the most, the film takes the audience to the heartbreaking behind-story of Iraq War. A war should be about human and for human. And that's why this film is fascinating - it shows us what the War was truly about. It was about the real Iraqi people on the streets, in the tents, at the schools, on the buses, at the houses and at the hospitals. So many people died from the bombing. But at the end, as the nature intends, another precious life was born to a wounded family. And the audiences believe that the baby means the whole new hope for Iraq. I truthfully think that's why the audiences couldn't help applauding so hard before they had to walk out of the cinema. A great appreciation to the fimmaker Wayne Coles-Janess for showing us what we suppose to see. |
