Grownupism!
1 Day, When I Grow Up!
I wuz sittin� an� stinkin� �bout the weather an� whether I�m ever gonna be sumbody � I meen sumbody special!
I�m goin� to skool ev�ry day of my life an� doin� homework ev�ry minute I�m not in skool � so wut�s gonna cum outta all this learnin� an� studyin�?
O.K., maybe I�m exageratin� a little bit, but it sure seems like day an� nite yukky slave skool homework.
Man, I wish I culd have as many ideas for work as the dragon-teecher has an� plus my perents alwayz agree with her skool habits!?
Us kidz are boxed in on all sides, top to bottom.
I don�t know who did it, but I gotta admit, I�m glad sumbody thoughta weekend an� holidays, otherwise we kidz wuld be total skool slaves.
Plus, I tryin� out for the basketball team an� I�m not exactly bein� Kobe Bryant when I�m on the court!
I meen, basketball is a lotta work, jez like skool, but it�s more fun to dribble an� shoot, than to think an� write!
Plus behave!
My perents bought me new shoes for practice, so my tryout outfit is lookin� true gangsta loose!
Man, I�m ready!
Now, I jez gotta git the coach to see my readyness, then I can play on the team an� ev�rybody�s gonna luv me.
O.K., I git lottsa luv from my perents an� granma, but it�s not the same as when my pardnurs tell me I�m the baddest dude on the court an� summa the gurls say the same thing an� plus they say, I look reel cute too!
Man, this is the wurld I wanna always be in. Later for skool!
So now, I�m home from skool an� basketball tryouts.
The coach ran us up an� down the court enuf times to make me sweat on my new clothes an� shoes!
I wuz one funky dude when we finally finished.
Plus bein� funky, I hadda little trubble gittin� the ball to fall thru the net!
I guess it�s not as easy as it looks!?
So now I gotta wait for answers!

I�m gonna have dinner now, an� I�m gonna say g�nite, �cause I know I�m gonna goto sleep soon, homework or not!

Erwachsensein!
Eines Tages, wenn ich erwachsen werde!
Ich war am Sitz�n und Stink�n �bas Wetter und ob ich jemals jemand sein werd� � ich mein jemand Besonderer!
An jedem Tag meines Lebens geh ich zur Schule und in jeder Minute, die ich nich� inner Schule bin, mach ich Hausaufgaben � also, was soll da ma� bei rauskomm�, aus all diesem Lern� und Studier�n?
Okay, vielleicht �batreib ich �n bi�chen, aber es kommt mir vor wie Tag und Nacht �tzende Sklavenschule-Hausaufgaben.
Mann, ich w�nschte, ich k�nnt so viele Ideen f�r die Arbeit aufbring�n wie die Drachenlehrerin, und meine Eltern stimmen ihren Schulgewohnheiten immer zu!?
Wir Kinder werden echt von allen Seiten geboxt, von oben bis unten.
Ich wei� nich, wer�s war, aber ich muss zugeb�n, ich bin froh, dass jemand sich Wochenenden und Ferjen ausgedacht hat, sonst w�r�n wir Kids totale Schulsklaven.
Au�erdem vasuch ich, ob ich ins Basketballteam komm, und ich bin nich wirklich Kobe Bryant, wenn ich auf�em Spielfeld bin!
Ich mein, Basketball is �ne Menge Arbeit, genau wie Schule, aber es macht mehr Spa� zu dribbeln und zu werf�n als zu denk�n und zu schreib�n!
Und sich zu benehm�!
Meine Eltern hab�n mir neue Schuhe zum �b�n gekauft, also sieht mein Outfit f�r�s Ausscheidungsspiel echt super locker aus!
Mann, ich bin bereit!
Jetz muss nur noch der Coach meine Bereitheit mitbekomm�, dann kann ich im Team mitspiel�n und jeder wird mich lieb�n.
Okay, ich bekomm �ne Menge Liebe von mein� Eltern und Oma, aber das is nich dasselbe, wie wenn meine Kumpels mir sag�n, dass ich der ultra�koolste Typ auf�em Spielfeld bin, und die M�dchen dasselbe sag�n und noch dazu, dass ich super s�� ausseh!
Mann, das is die Welt, in der ich imma sein will. Vagiss die Schule!
Und jetz bin ich zur�ck von der Schule und den Basketballspielen.
Der Coach lie� uns den Platz vor und zur�ck ablauf�n, genug, damit ich anfing zu schwitz�n in mein neu�n Klamotten und Schuhen!
Ich war �n komplett vaschwitzter Typ, als wir endlich damit aufh�rt�n.
Und so vaschwitzt hatte ich �n bi�chen Probleme, den Ball dazu zu beweg�n, durchs Netz zu fall�n!
Ich glaub�, das is nich so leicht, wie�s aussieht!?
So, und jetz muss ich auf Ergebnisse wart�n!
Drin oder drau�en?
Ich werd jetz Abendbrot essen und ich sag jetz �Nacht, weil ich wei�, dass ich bald ins Bett geh, Hausaufgaben hin oder her!

The documentary film "A Conversation With Oscar Brown Jr." occurs in Oscar�s hotel room, after the completion of his invitational concert at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin/Germany.
He is in an expansive mood and speaks at length about music, the relationship between politics and sleaze in the U.S.A., the state of affairs of Black America and the underclass, crack cocaine, racial prejudice as a mental illness, Affirmative Action and the evil spirit in human society, versus the godly side in humanity.
Oscar also reminisces about his childhood in Chicago, attending the University of Wisconsin, acting, Dick Durham, the cold war, W.E.B. DuBois, Paul Robeson, the Communist Party, Jim Crow, his army experiences, the collapse of Communism-Socialism, Black people in the Communist Party and his hopes for the future.
Der Dokumentarfilm "A Conversation With Oscar Brown Jr." wurde in Oscars Hotelzimmer gedreht, nach Beendigung seines Konzertes auf Einladung des Hauses der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin/Deutschland. Er ist in mitteilsamer Laune und spricht ausf�hrlich �ber Musik, die Beziehung zwischen Politik und Unmoral in den USA, den Stand der Dinge des Schwarzen Amerikas und die Unterklasse, Crack/Kokain, rassistische Vorurteile als mentale Krankheit, Affirmative Action und den b�sen Geist in der menschlichen Gesellschaft im Kontrast zur g�ttlichen Seite der Menschlichkeit. Oscar schwelgt in Erinnerungen an seine Kindheit in Chicago, den Besuch der Universit�t von Wisconsin, ans Schauspielen, an Dick Durham, den Kalten Krieg, W.E.B. DuBois, Paul Robeson, die Kommunistische Partei, Jim Crow, seine Erfahrungen mit der Armee, den Zusammenbruch des Kommunismus�/Sozialismus�, schwarze Menschen in der Kommunistischen Partei und er erz�hlt �ber seine Hoffnungen f�r die Zukunft.

The documentary travels from his birthplace in Trinidad, to Ottawa, where he spent his childhood, and finally to the Toronto neighborhood he now calls home. As he discusses his work, we come to realize why each location has such a remarkable hold on him.

"As An Act Of Protest" is "an internal Battle of Algiers". It is a poetic cinematic essay on racism and its psychological effects. It is an avant-garde movie that is more like a tone poem or classical black theater piece rather than a foray into conventional narrative cinema and its style flows from documentary and melodrama to satire and horror. The movie follows the �rite-of-passage-stations-of-the-cross" journey of a young passionate apollonian African American actor named Cairo Medina and his early artistic trials and tribulations with his director and dionysiac kindred spirit, Abner Sankofa. Together, after leaving a NYC Theater conservatory, they form a theatre group in Harlem and try to revive the Black Arts Movement which had such an impact on the theater community in the 1960�s.
"As An Act Of Protest" ist "eine innere Schlacht von Algier". Es ist ein poetisches filmisches Essay �ber Rassismus und dessen psychologischen Auswirkungen. In their 1930�s heyday, they danced at Harlem�s most prestigious haunts, with legendary band leaders like Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington. In 1985 they regrouped, put their shoes back on � and sassy as they ever were � are still performing regularly. They may not kick as high, but they are hip-swaying and show-biz savvy.

"My name is David Sylvester and on 9/11 my life long friend, neighbor and mentor was killed. I felt that it was unfair that any man, especially Kevin, should die in such an ignominious fashion and started a scholarship fund in his name at a local high school. To raise funds and awareness for this cause I rode my bicycle across the U.S.A. I matured, grew and evolved so much on this trip that I wanted to do more and entered a bike race that would take me from Cairo to Cape Town."
"Mein Name ist David Sylvester und am 11. September wurde mein langj�hriger Freund, Nachbar und Mentor get�tet. Ich hatte das Gef�hl, es sei unfair, dass irgendein Mann, und besonders Kevin, auf solch sch�ndliche Weise sterben sollte, und begann in seinem Namen eine Stiftung in einer �rtlichen High School. Um Geldmittel und Aufmerksamkeit f�r diese Sache zu bekommen, fuhr ich mit dem Fahrrad durch die ganze USA. Ich reifte, wuchs und entwickelte mich so sehr auf dieser Reise, dass ich mehr tun wollte, und nahm an einem Fahrradrennen teil, das mich von Kairo nach Kapstadt f�hrte."

Ousmane "Zoumana" Dembele was born in Burkina Faso to a family of djelis, also known as griots � hereditary musicians and storytellers of West Africa. He learned the traditional djeli repertoire by playing the supporting calabash drums to his father�s fiddle.
Griot musical traditions are still passed from one generation to the next, but times are changing. The djembe, a drum popular in West Africa, has become increasingly prominent in griot repertoires. Zoumana Dembele is one of the world�s most promising djembe players.
Ousmane "Zoumana" Dembele wurde in Burkina Faso in eine Familie von Djelis geboren, auch bekannt als Griots � vererbte Gabe als Musiker und Geschichtenerz�hler in Westafrika. Er lernte das traditionelle Djelirepertoire, indem er die Geige seines Vaters mit den Calabashtrommeln begleitete.
Die musikalischen Traditionen werden immer noch von einer Generation an die n�chste weitergegeben, aber die Zeiten �ndern sich. Die Djembe, eine in Westafrika popul�re Trommel, ist im Repertoire der Griots immer prominenter geworden. Zoumana Dembele ist einer der aussichtsreichsten Djembespieler der Welt.

In September 1942, a group of West Indian women arrived in Britain to join the ATS, a branch of the army. The decision to recruit them followed two years of internal wrangling at the war office. In all, over 300 women served in Britain, Washington, and the Caribbean before the war ended. Now, nearly 50 years later, five such women are reunited to recount and reflect upon their experiences.

Naming the film `Tango Charlie� is my way as a writer to draw attention to the fact that the name could be used to represent any soldier anywhere in the world, implying that everywhere the story is the same. Everywhere people die for their cause or country just because some leader decided to play a power game with some other leader.
I made this film to show my audience that war is not something glamorous and patriotic. It�s not something to feel proud about. War is brutal and terrifying. It reduces us to our most inhuman and cruel selves."

Den Film `Tango Charlie� zu nennen, ist meine Art als Autor, die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Tatsache zu lenken, dass der Name jeden Soldaten auf der Welt repr�sentieren k�nnte, in der Annahme, dass die Geschichte �berall die gleiche ist. �berall sterben Menschen f�r ihre Sache oder ihr Land, einfach nur, weil irgendein F�hrer sich dazu entschlossen hat, Machtspiele mit irgendeinem anderen F�hrer zu betreiben.
Diesen Film habe ich gemacht, um meinem Publikum zu zeigen, dass Krieg nichts glamour�ses und patriotisches hat. Es ist nichts, auf das man stolz sein kann. Krieg ist brutal und f�rchterlich. Er reduziert uns auf unser unmenschliches und grausames Selbst."
