GENERAL SCOTLAND BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Scotland has a rich tradition of resistance against capitalism, and offers a unique combination of advantages and disadvantages to the antiG8 mobilisation. The antiglobalisation movement has never had a large presence in Scotland. Yet, most Scottish people are sympathetic to the problems caused by neoliberalism and openly hostile towards Blair and Bush. Parts of Scotland are very international in character, and there is little racism and xenophobia in Scotland. However, Scotland is geographically isolated, and world leaders hope that travelling to Scotland for a mobilisation will be out of the question for many Europeans.
