De E.U. stevent op je af deze zomer!

 Europa komt naar je toe deze zomer. Nederland is voor de 2de helft van het jaar voorzitter van de Europese Unie. Tel daar nog de Europese verkiezingen van 10 juni bij op en het feest is compleet. Rondom beide thema's is al veel te doen.
Zo wordt er gewerkt aan protesten tegen verschillende toppen In Maastricht wordt rondom het thema milieu al gewerkt aan een Climate Action Summer School. Ook is er 5 juni een heus festival rondom de Europese Unie. Op 26 juni is er de PLEUROParade in Utrecht waar gedanst en geprotesteerd wordt tegen de EU. Er is nog knutselhulp nodig. Op 10 juni zijn ook de EU verkiezingen. Hierop is al aardig wat kritiek gekomen. Ook op deze kritiek wordt ingegaan. Vooral de manier waarop de verkiezingen gepromoot worden door verschillende politiek organisaties valt niet bij iedereen even goed. Wij zullen u de excessen niet onthouden. Op zaterdag 5 juni organiseert anarchistisch collectief Eurodusnie het 'Geen Paniek! Europa Festival', wat begint om 12.30 uur in Het Leids Volkshuis, Apothekersdijk 33a in Leiden. Aansluitend feest. Meer informatie en aanmelding op  http://eu2004.eurodusnie.nl

"Axiekomitee EuNEE" geeft vijf dagen voor het begin van het voorzitterschap, op zaterdag 26 juni, de aftrap met de 'pleuroparade', een kritische mix tussen een streetrave en een demonstratie. "The International ReThink Collective of Criticial Citizens", ook wel bekend als ReThink, een collectief van kritische burgers uit Zuid-Limburg, organiseert rondom de allereerste ministerstop in Maastricht een cultureel en educatief festival. Milieudefensie organiseert vervolgens op 16, 17 en 18 juli, een 'Climate Action Summer School' rondom de top van milieuministers in Maastricht. Activisten uit heel Europa komen op deze Summer School bijeen voor debatten en workshops over klimaatverandering. Op zaterdag de 17e wordt er actie gevoerd. Op 17 en 18 september is de defensietop in Noordwijk. Hier zullen onder andere het Europese leger en de stijgende defensieuitgaven worden besproken. Ook is het voor wapenfabrikanten een mooie plek om te netwerken. Een voorlopig naamloze groep is hiermee bezig, en zal voorafgaand aan het protest info-avonden organiseren. Op 9, 10 en 11 november bespreekt de Europese elite in Groningen het integratiebeleid. Een gelegenheidscoalitie genaamd 'N10' wil bij deze bijeenkomst aandacht vragen voor het harde vluchtelingenbeleid en de problemen van illegalen. www.n10.nl, info@n10.nl
Voorlopig zijn dit de plannen. Rondom de landbouwtop (5-7 sept., Noordwijk/Lisse), de justitie-top (29 sept.-1 okt., Den Haag), de top over sociaal beleid (8-9 nov., Amsterdam of Rotterdam) en de top over hoger onderwijs (14-15 dec., Maastricht) is het vooralsnog stil, ook al zijn dit wel de aangewezen plaatsen om actie te voeren tegen bijvoorbeeld de uitverkoop van het hoger onderwijs of gen-tech.

Meeting of European Free and community Media initiatives in Prague (Cz) and Freistadt (A)

The accession of ten further states to the European Union on the 1st of May is a significant historical moment. With the enlargement of the EU a picture of a coalescending Europe, a place of peace and cooperation is evoked. But intercultural exchange and cross-border communication between citizens of neighbouring regions still lag behind the general developments.
Free independent media initiatives - radio, TV, internet, press, publc campaining, cultural, human rights, environmental, etc-particularily foster communication in local frameworks, but also between and within various societal and linguistic communities. In the time between the 10th and the 13th of June the FM AT dia Forum in Prague and Freistadt wants to bring forward the exchange and collaboration of various community media between "East" and "West" including also regions beyond the borders of the enlarged EU.
Free, independent community media complement and correct information which is produced by mainstream media. Nowadays, they constitute an essential component in the democratic develpment of our societies. Between the various regions of the "new Europe" the working conditions for independent media vary substantially on the political, economic, legal and societal defaults. The FM AT dia Forum shall assist in developing strategies, which support a general appreciation of Free Media and secure their involvement in the policies of the European Union.
The expected participants of FM AT dia in Prague and Freistadt come from very different media spheres and sectors of cultural, social and civic societal dedication. On the first two days an analysis of the developments of the national and European media landscapes, the composition of a "survival kit for independent media" and reflections towards sustainable exchange of programmes and content will be on the agenda. In Freistadt, on the 12th of June the significance of cross border media activism as a contribution to autonomous regional developments will be discussed.
FM AT dia is an open forum for the formulation and discussion of strategies for a European network of Free Media.
