THE DEATH FAST IN TURKEY CONTINUES
IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE ISOLATION PRISON CELLS OF THE EU and USA 111 of OUR PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR LIFE
The death fast resistance (the highest form of the hunger strike, that is continued up to the death), which has begun in October 2000 for the closure of the isolation prisons, still continues. In this resistance, 10 death fast teams, that replaced each other without interruption in the prisons. Also outside the prisons, dozens have fallen martyred in the course of the death fasts and other actions of prisoner’s relatives, former prisoners and the comrades of the prisoner.
The fight against the isolation in our country has found big solidarity and support and has continued with new traditions daily. The fact that almost half of these 111 people, lost their life outside the prisons shows how big the support is within our people.
Although the state enacted laws, forbid the solidarity with the prisoners in order to prevent the support outside the prisons and denied the prisoners the right to resist, this resistance has always continued with big determination.
The ones, that forbid the death fast, legalized the forced treatment in hospitals, and thought to be able to break the resistance against the isolation, have been mistaken another time: The prisoners, that developed new traditions in this resistance constantly, and particularly the volunteers of the 10th death fast team, decided as weapon against the forced treatment torture of the state to set their bodies on fire in the case of such a sanction and to continue the resistance. The last three voluntaries of the death fast died this way and have intensified the resistance with it.
Directly after mayday, the international fight-day of the workers class, our comrade Selma Kubat, who was imprisoned in the Gebze prison, lost her life at the 198th day of her resistance, which she started on October 20, 2003. She has achieved a new victory against the state, that prohibits even the right on resistance, in that she transformed her body into a fireball.
We call all democratic organizations and institutions, prisoners and prisoner organizations, and all circles and people, who are against the isolation imprisonment, to support the resistance against the isolation. We call them to protest against the isolation prisons, that are an invention of the EU and USA, just as against the Turkish state, that murders by means of the isolation politics.
A victory against the isolation cells marked as F-Types in Turkey is a victory against the isolation politics of imperialism.
