Dutch bases for more US war.
Chris Herz - 19.04.2004 19:08

Is it the policy of the Royal Netherlands Government to support an attack by the United States on Venezuela?

Geography is the first study of the military tactician. And if one wishes to launch air and naval attacks on Venezuela it is clear that the territory of the Netherlands Antilles is very desirable. One glance at the map shows us this fact.

Since World War II the USA has, with the permission of the Hague held air and naval bases on the islands of the Antilles immediately to the north of Venezuela. These bases are essential to the on-going development of covert and military operations there designed to subvert and destroy the democratic government of that oil-rich nation. The policy being, as in Iraq, where the Dutch government is also complicitous, to cause the forcible expropriation of the national oil company and its valuable reserves.

The bases are also necessary to the operations of the USA in support of the death-squad satellite governments in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and most of all in Colombia.

With regard to Venezuela, the recent return from that country of Florida Senator Bill Nelson, minority head of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee was prominently covered in the Miami Herald.

This newpaper is always a vehicle for the exposition of propaganda and disinformation on behalf of the US oligarchy and its Latin American subsidiaries.

Nelson told the Herald that he raised the question of Venezuelan co-operation with the insurgents in Colombia. He also, when met with denials by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Perez, stated that US intelligence had incontrovertable evidence of this complicity, which he then refused to divulge in any detail.

Citing "national security" the quotation of conjecture or outright lies has been the hallmark of all US provocations and self-righteous justification in all their adventures in South America and, obviously, recently, in Iraq.

There is no question that Dutch territory was used by US forces in support of the abortive coup against the government of Venezuela in April of 2001.

Frankly, one would hope that the Dutch people would by now have learnt not to listen to this clearly mendacious garbage. As a US citizen I would respectfully urge Netherlanders to refuse to allow their government to once again align itself with another crime of international aggression. This time aganst a democratically elected government.

The USA has opened a true Pandora's box in Iraq. Even if their forces should succeed in crushing the resistance there, the expenditure of lives and funds cannot be recovered by the oil looted from that country. The obvious move for the corrupt and murderous US oligarchy is to reassert its hegemonism in Venezuela, and to manipulate matters there by force to find, they hope, cheaper oil there.

Armor assets have been provided with US funds from European suppliers to the Colombian satellite army. The government of that country now seems to be collaborating with their Washington handlers in building up a false case for more war -- this time not only aganst their own people, but with their neighbor.

In this war, since US ground forces are pretty much tied up in the mideast and in Central Asia, the Colombian Army must provide the armor and infantry forces necessary for the occupation of the oil-rich Lake Maracaibo region of Venezuela. But supporting air and naval forces must be launched from the Netherlands Antilles directly by US forces.

Is there anything in all of this to profit the Netherlands or Europe? I certainly cannot see it.

Being, as I am, sadly ignorant of your language, I request translation of this article into Dutch.

Chris Herz
