Forgent sues over JPEG rights
Washington, DC, Apr. 24 (UPI) -- Forgent Networks has filed suit in Federal court against 31 companies for alleged patent infringement on JPEG image technology, Internetweek reported Saturday.
The lawsuit, brought by Forgent's subsidiary Compression Labs Inc., is an attempt to "maximize shareholder value" by adding these companies to a list of 30 others who have paid $90 million to Forgent over the past two years from this patent.
Internetweek said Forgent's main business is providing "a spectrum of scheduling software that enable organizations to streamline the planning and execution of their meetings, helping to increase productivity and reduce costs."
The defendants in the case include Adobe Systems Incorporated, Agfa Corporation, Apple Computer Incorporated, Axis Communications Incorporated, Canon USA, Concord Camera Corporation, Creative Labs Incorporated, and Dell Incorporated.
