Worker Communist Party of Iraq opens offices in Iraq
The Worker Communist Party of Iraq (WCPI) has established offices in Baghdad and several other cities in Iraq. In an inaugural meeting on 21 April 2003 attended by the leadership, cadres, members and supporters of the WCPI, two offices were established in the areas of Bab Al-Sharjy and Keradeh in the centre of Baghdad. In a further move to expand the WCPI's activities, the WCPI leadership held a meeting with members and cadres in the city of Nasiriyah in southern Iraq. WCPI offices were also opened two weeks ago in Kirkuk. A delegation from the oil workers have already met with the WCPI representative. Thousands of WCPI literature has been distributed and several mass meetings held in the cities of Baghdad, Mosul, Tuz, and Kirkuk discussing the policies and solutions offered by worker-communism. Several thousand copies of the weekly WCPI paper, Al-Shiuye Al-amaliyeh, have also been distributed in Baghdad, Nasiriyah and Kirkuk.
Over the years, the WCPI has fought for the overthrow of the Ba'athist regime and has been unequivocally opposed to economic sanctions and the war against Iraq. Following the fall of the Ba'athist regime, the WCPI has announced that the USA-imposed government has no legitimacy as far as the people of Iraq’s interests are concerned. The WCPI has strongly condemned US envoy General Garner’s attempts to impose such a government as well as the efforts of Islamic groups to turn the future government of Iraq into a religious one. The WCPI is the defender of the people’s direct participation and struggle to control their own political future and establish freedom, secularism and equality.
