Serbia and SARS Srbija Danas - Serbia Today - 24.04.2003 22:18
Serbia and the risk of SARS Now that the state of emergency has been cancelled BiH stup up their border controles in order to prevent criminal elements from entering into Bosnia. This raises some questions, however not political! With the spread of SARS we see that slowly the virus is entering into different regions. When the state of emergency was announced Serbia closed its borders. The question remains in how far the borders are closed. Like in the Kosovo conflict, Albanian terrorists entered Serbia without problems, like even today in the south of Serbia where the ANA and other terrorist organisations are still active. They do no only pose a threat against peace and a multicultural society, but they also pose a sirious health problem when SARS enteres into Europe. There are border regions that cannot be verified under the current circumstances, and it is our believe that with a eventual outbrake of SARS, Serbia will be hit hard. Then there is the issue of the Chinese human trafficing, of which many Serb is irritated in some way. Not that the newcomers are not welcome, but it furthermore shows that smuggling and illegal trade is still worth while. Ever since the NATO intervention in Kosovo, the SE European smuggling route came under the complete control of Albanian smuggling/criminal groups. With all consequences involved. Not only can one smuggle small arms, drugs and similar material. But one could use SARS as a weapon. All of this does not contribute to a safe region, but also stand investments in the way.
